A cheap, simple, but very effective silencer.

This works great. I made it for my Tippman 98 Custom, but you can adapt the idea and use it for any barrel. I use that gun in the woods, and I use the Flatline barrel with it. As many of you know, the Flatline is not the most quiet barrel on the market. I decided I needed a bit less noise to be really effective with it, so I made this silencer.

For the Flatline, this is what I used:

at least 1 foot of 1" conduit piping ($3 from Home Depot)

1 Pringles can, 2 plastic Pringles caps

some batting, or some sort of pillow/blanket stuffing

some felt tape

This is really easy to make.

Basically, the idea is to have an inner tube (conduit piping) that fits over your barrel. A larger tube (Pringles can) goes over it, and you put the batting in between the two to muffle the sound. Simple, right?

1. Cut a length of the conduit piping the same length as the Pringles can.

2. Drill some medium-sized holes in the conduit piping, like they have on the BoomStick.

3. Trace a circle on the Pringles caps the size of the conduit piping. The Pringles tops will be your end caps on your silencer. Now, cut the caps so that you can slide the conduit piping into the hole in the center.

4. Cut off the closed end of the Pringles can.

5. Put the conduit into the Pringles can, and push the batting into the pringles can around the conduit. You don't want to pack it in there REALLY hard, you just want a good, thick layer that can "give" a little. Make sure that the conduit ends up in the center of the pringles can, with batting surrounding it.

6. Glue/tape the pringles caps onto the ends of the pringles can. Make sure that they won't fall off, and make sure that the conduit tube won't slide around through them. It should stick in place.

7. Spray paint the whole thing black. You don't want it to look like a Pringles can on the end of your gun, do you?

8. Wrap a tiny bit of felt tape around the barrel, behind the muzzle in front of the shroud. This will keep the silencer firmly in place, but make it easy to remove.

That's it. Wasn't that easy?

This won't COMPLETELY silence your gun, but it will take off all that high-end "CLACK!" that you normally hear. Basically, it will sound like a loud muffled cough, just like they always describe it in the books.

If you're doing this for a different barrel, all you need to do is buy a different size of conduit. Measure your barrel diameter, and buy conduit piping that is just slightly larger, so you can slide it on. The Flatline was about 7/8 of an inch wide, so I bought 1" piping.
