I guess one of the areas I haven't been able to put much time into is the artillery or indirect fire aspect of paintball. Althoug it isn't very helpful sometimes due to the terrain or features on the terrain it still intrigues me to make something to launch a grenade quietly. These are some little ideas I have had already...

picture and product from : http://www.slingking.com/ns/index.html.
I tried one of these once. It's cool, but requires other to make it work. You could attach both sides to two trees, but then you are stuck in spot. Fill some water balloons with paint and you have a great artillery launcher, or try to use the squadbusters. There are alot of places on the web to find these things, just look up on a search engine "water balloon launcher". The next site is a highly recommended site:

This picture from : http://www.tippmann.com/hellhound.html. Another idea is a carryable catapult for the grenades. It is basically the same type of launcher design they have on the Tippmann "Hellhound". It looks complicated, but a wound spring on the elbow might be able to do it. It can be made cheaply, I just don't have the time to do it.

This picture from : http://www.tippmann.com/hellhound.html. I was also trying to figure out how they made this gatlin gun (multi barreled guns). I can figure out some of it, but how the barrels are fed paintball and able to hold them in are the problem. This one would cost a lot more to try to duplicate, but if you have the time and money go nuts. You will be the envy of the paintball course.

A claymore mine is always something I wanted to make. They sell a type on http://www.alternativepaintball.com that I believe is explosive. I was trying to figure out a way to make one with a spring or air pressure, so you wouldn't have to worry about the safety factor. In case you don't know what a claymore is here is an explanation. Most regular land mines shoot up or down and blow up when triggered by the victim (through a pressure button stepped on or a trip wire). A claymore is a mine that shoots horizontally at an area. It is usually triggered by a person that can observe the mine (in other words a really close person). The advantage of a claymore is that you can usually take out more people in an area than with a land mine. Anyway trying to figure out a way to shoot paint sideways is the thing. I guess you could some how use a super soaked nozzle that moved back an forth. For the water put in a mixture of half paint and half water, so the nozzle doesn't clog.

I have also wanted to make a mine that is set up in a tree that could be triggered from the ground and spray downward. This wouldn't be that difficult, just used an over filled water balloon hanging in a tree and have a cord going over an area of the ground. The cord, when pulled, could somehow rip the balloon open dropping paint on everything below. To cover a significant area you would have to put up a number of balloons to cover everyone. You could also shoot the balloons from a concealed position, with you paintball gun that's if it is accurate enough to hit at a distance because once you fire, they will probably find you.

Safety is a major part of this sport. I have plans on how to make chain maile in the ARMOR section of this web site, but that stuff get heavy when you make a full suit. It also takes a lot of time to put one of those together. The Regular protective stuff for field play is great (goggles, full long sleeve clothing, neck protector and gloves), but if you want to start playing with cannons, launchers and whatever you may think of that launches large paint objects towards people , then you may need to upgrade your safety gear. For playing at the fields I have a mask, neck protector, half-finger gloves, and camouflage. When I play with artillery and large amounts of paint (full automatic play) I wear armor. I purchased a motorcross chest protective gear to protect against heavy hits to my chest. These things are a little bulky, but do the job. Most of these new cost about $50 to $500. I went to a motorcross store nearby and bought a used yellow one for $20. I then proceeded to paint it black. This thing has saved me from many multiround hits in the chest. Another thing I bought were the boots and shine guards. These I also purchased from the store used, but they still do the job. The shine guards are great and I started using them for speedball, but the boots are very tough. They are made to stop your ankle from twisting, so they are hard to run in, but they are very comfortable. The major thing I bought for the outdoor games I play is a cup. I have had many hits that would have taken me out of the game without it on. I can not emphasis this enough. When it comes to the family jewels, it is worth $20 to protect them. Now these things do add up to about $100, but if you plan on playing with cannons and other huge launchers, I recommend the purchase. In this game it is very important not to get hurt, otherwise the game isn't that fun. For the guys out there that don't believe in wearing a cup read this article: http://www.users.uswest.net/~jmsdeleon/OUCH!.html, it may change your mind.

For the bigger fields, I have wanted to make an armored personnel carrier/fighter. This would cost more and be a little more difficult to put together, but taking a small compact car and putting a turret with a marker on it is a dream I have had for a while. The only trouble would be the suspension of the car to keep the gunner in the turret from being bounced around while trying to fire. The turret would be a great place for a cannon (run by air for safety). Another problem is making the turret. This would require alot to cut a hole in the roof of a car and making something that looks cools, rotates and is able to withstand a pounding. This could be an expensive little toy, but fun as hell.>

More ideas as I come up with them will be added later
