The materials presented here are excerpts from a report filed by FBI Special Agent William Crockerman of the San Antonio field office on January 11, 2002. The incident in question took place in Angola Springs, 25 miles east of Lubbock.
Included is the written testimony of three individuals who were interviewed following the shooting incident that occurred at the Angola Springs public high school on January 11. Heather Richmond, the school's administrative assistant, Anna Harris-Fuller, an Angola County Sheriff's deputy, and Agent Nathan Crossley, the only pertinent FBI witness to the incident.
At 1:21 p.m., Agents Dumain and Crossley, both trained hostage negotiators, arrived at Angola High School after receiving a call about a possible hostage situation. Upon arrival, the agents were met by Richmond, who informed them that two students, Jeremy Askew and Katherine Hazelgrove had barricaded themselves and several of their teachers in the upstairs band room.
According to Richmond, the two students were not friends and had very little contact with one another prior to the incident. Neither student had any prior history of violence or mental illness. According to school records, Hazelgrove was an average student and active in school affairs. Askew was in the band, and an excellent student.
