Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

cover

Harry Potter (Dan Radcliffe) begins the summer of his fourth year at Hogwarts by going to the Quiddich world cup with the Weasleys and Hermoine Granger (Emma Watson). After the match Voldemort's supporters the Death eaters cause some chaos and Harry gets knocked out in the shuffle. After coming to, Harry sees a man cast a spell that put The DarkMark, Voldemort's symbol, in the air.

Once back at school Harry learns that this year Hogwarts will be host to the Triwizard Tournament, the competition in which champions from three schools compete in a series of tasks in order to win the Triwizard Cup. Cedric Diggory (Robert Pattinson) is chosen from Hogwarts, Fleur Delacour (Clemence Poesy) from Beaubatons and Viktor Krum (Stanislav Ianevski () for Durmstrang. Harry also meets the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, Professor Moody (Brendan Gleeson). As Dumbledore was about to go on about the rules of the tournament, a fourth name comes out of the cup and it just happens to be Harry Potter.

Harry gets interogated by the teachers asking him why his name came out of the cup, because there were only supposed to be three champions and Harry was under the age limit. The representive from the Ministry of Magic, Barty Crouch (Roger Lloyd-Pack) rules that Harry must compete in the tournament. Harry learns from Rubeus Hagrid (Robbie Coltrane), that the first task is dragons. Harry uses his broom to fly away from the dragon and grabs the egg, the clue for the next task. The next task is to retreave his "treasure" Ron Weasley (Rupert Grint) from the lake. With help from Neville Longbottom (Matthew Lewis), Harry uses Gillyweed to successfully complete the task.

The fourth task is to grab the cup from the middle of a giant hedge maze. Harry and Cedric help each other to reach the cup and decide to grab it together. When they do, they are transported to a grave yard. Cedric is killed by the Avada Kedavra course by Wormtail and Harry is captured. Peter Pettigrew (Timothy Spall) then preforms a spell to bring back Lord Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes), using Harry's blood. Harry is forced to duel Voldemort surrounded by a ring of death eaters.

I think this movie was very well done. The director did a very good job of chopping down the book so it could fit into a movie, without destorying the original story too much. The acting from the trio keeps getting better sequentially for each movie. Ralph Fiennes made a great Voldemort. The tasks for the most part were well done, but I wished they would have trimmed the dragon fight and put some more into the maze scene. Overall a great movie and a great addition to the Harry Potter franchise.
