League of Extraordinary Gentlemen - Movie Review
League of Extraordinary Gentleman
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is an action packed movie starring Sean Connery as Alan Quartermain, a hunter from africa who did a favour for an african witch doctor. In return the witch doctor said that Africa wouldn't let Quartermain die. Alan is approached by the head of a British intelligence agency, M (Richard Roxburgh) to lead a team against the evil Phantom who is planning to start a world war. The team consists of Dorian Gray (Stuart Townsend) an immortal whose portrait ages instead of him, Captain Nemo (Naseeruddin Shah) with his famous sub the Nautalas, Mina Harker (Peta Wilson) dracula's bride, Tom Sawyer (Shane West) american agent/cowboy, The Invisible Man (Tony Curran) and doctor Jekyll/Mr Hide (Jason Flemyng).
Once the league is established, they hear that the Phantom is planning to kill world leaders at a conference in Venice. The League manages to stop the explosion and save the day even though there is a traitor in their midst. They believe the traitor is the Invisible Man. The League then goes to destory the Phantom's northern hideout. There are many plot twists and changes during the dazzling battle scenes at the end.
I thought this movie was quite good. Not the best movie of the year but an entertaining two hours at least. Sean Connery is a great actor and from his Bond experience he pulled off his role stunningly. The cast of interesting literary fictional characters add to the flavour of the movie along with the stunning special effects and music. Overall a pretty good action packed special effect stuffed movie.
