Part Two: Echoes of History


Chapter Eight

Fury and Fudge had little time to gather their senses when they heard an earth-shattering roar.  Running in the direction of the sound, they were horrified to see a large GINO attacking the guards.  The kaiju assaulted the many tanks and foot soldiers and sent them into total retreat.

       Moments later, Fury and Fudge met up with GWB, G64, and the unconscious body of Dragitron as they ran outside the fortress.  Fury ran over to his leader and began to heal Dragitron's many wounds.  Within seconds, Dragitron began to stir.  He thanked Fury, and began to recount to the other agents what he learned from Gates.  Fury and Fudge told the others what they had learned as well, but didn't reveal who killed Drag's father.  The roar of GINO interrupted their conversation.

       "We've got to destroy this base now!" Drag shouted over the roar of the advancing kaiju.  "GWB, call for Rodan.  GINO's weakness is its pathetic hide.  If you can get close enough, you can kill it.  The rest of you, keep that damn thing busy.  I'll go back into the fortress and destroy it!" 

       Suddenly, Black16 materialized out of thin air.  "That won't be necessary, Dragitron.  Kill the monster.  I'll take care of the fortress."

       Drag stared at Black16 with hatred in his eyes.  "First you won't tell me what you know, and then you order ME around?"  Black16 just stared back.  "Listen pal, I don't take orders from anyone but Anonymous Benefactor, is that understood?  And I sure as hell ain't gonna trust a freak like you unless you tell me what you know!"  Drag began to walk to the main gate, but Black16 grabbed him by the arm.  "I will tell you everything after you destroy that kaiju.  I promise." 

       Drag looked into Black16's eyes.  His facial _expression changed from one of anger to one of relaxation.  "Fine.  You had BETTER keep your promise."  As Drag walked back to his fellow agents, Black16 walked into the fortress.

       Meanwhile, GWB had already whistled for Fire Rodan, and the mighty beast arrived.  Rodan landed next to his Avatar and GWB climbed on his back.  "Take me near GINO's head," he commanded, and Fire Rodan was happy to oblige. 

       GINO roared as it saw Rodan and his cargo.  Rodan blasted GINO in the side with his heat beam to confuse the kaiju.  GINO lunged at Rodan, barely missing his right wing.  Then it roared and a hurricane wind from the kaiju's maw sent Rodan spinning in the sky.  GWB hung on for dear life and Rodan regained his composure.

       "We've got to help them!" Fury shouted.  The other agents began to hit GINO with everything they had.  The monster turned his attention to the new nuisances, giving GWB a clear shot.  He took out his sniper rifle and aimed for GINO's heart.  "Steady now, Rodan.  I've only got one shot at this."  He took aim.  Through the sight, GWB could see the chest of GINO, open for a direct attack. 

       Then he fired.

       The bullet whizzed through the air, tearing through GINO's skin and it's weak rib cage.  The bullet pierced GINO's heart, and with a loud groan, the beast toppled over, dead.

       Meanwhile, Black16 walked calmly into Bill Gates' office.  The billionaire was nursing his head wound and was startled to see Black16.  "Those eyes!  It's you!" he stammered.  "Leave me alone!  I did as you asked!"  Black16 looked puzzled.  "I am not who you think I am.  Indeed, we are similar, but I am not evil.  Tell me where Selatoth is, and you shall be granted eternal peace."  Gates fixed his glasses on his head.  "He's at Sony Headquarters in Japan.  He's planning on porting G:DAMM to the PS2, so he can reach out to more customers." 

       Black16 stared into the eyes of the helpless businessman.  "Thank you, Mr. Gates.  And now, as promised," he held out his hand as a black light began to grow in size on his palm.  "I will give you eternal peace."

       The agents were celebrating their victory when a blinding flash illuminated the area.  When their sight returned, a smoking crater was all that remained of the fortress.  Black16 was hovering in the air where the top floor once stood.  He gradually lowered himself to ground level and walked over to the astonished agents.  "Bill Gates and Microsoft are no more.  It's time I explained myself to you, and why we now face a bigger threat than I ever thought possible."
