THE THREE KEYS
Part Three: The Key of Mind

Chapter 8: The Battle At the Gates of Heaven

"My Lord," said Black16, pausing for a moment, "I have one last question."

"Speak on, My child," Elohem replied; at His voice the stones upon the floor glowing brighter than normal.

"Those on Earth, well, those on every world have gone through great hardships.  You have sent many of Your servants, such as myself, to aid these worlds.  But Your power is infinite.  Why is it that you don't aid them Yourself?"

"This too is a question that is oft asked of Me, My child.  In times of great need I do work openly, but such a time comes but once in a great while.  Oft My hand is hidden to those that I am helping, for they have no need to know that the Creator of the Universe watches over them at all times."

"Then, Meltdown Godzilla, his demise wasn't just coincidence.  You allowed him to die at that time; otherwise I would have had no way to seal the First of the Tanniym back into the Abyss.  Truly, even the most hurtful of events can be used for Your glory."

"Thou hast thought wisely in this My child.  Indeed, My hand was with thee in thy time upon thy world.  But now our time of fellowship must end, for thy aid shall be required outside the walls of the city."

Black16 looked puzzled, "Out...side?  Why will I be needed..."

Suddenly the ground shook and the young Milchmah was thrown to the ground.  He could hear the sounds of battle raging in the distance.

"The Khawlal!  They must be attacking the city!" he cried as he flew from the temple as fast as possible.  "The Khawlal know that Samrong will be attempting to release Abbadon soon, and if we are held in the city too long, there's no way we will reach Earth in time!"

Outside the walls of the city a great battle raged.  The Khawlal had fallen upon the city in great numbers on all sides.  If the Nephim alone had guarded the city, the demons may have overrun the Eternal Realm.  But there were gathered there the Milchmah as well, who the Khawlal had not counted on the presence of.

Three Khawlal had knocked one of the Nephim to the ground and began hacking at him mercilessly with their blood red scimitars.  "Not so strong when they can't fight back," one of the demons hissed to his comrade.  The demon that was spoken to didn't answer, as he was suddenly engulfed in a blinding white blast of energy.  His two fellows were hurled to the ground and turned to see a Michmah of great stature standing before them.  In his left hand was a broad sword at least as tall as him.  He held his right hand toward the Khawlal and beckoned them with one finger.  The demon that had spoken earlier rushed the heavenly warrior, his blade shimmering with excitement, hoping to taste new blood.  Before the blow landed, the demon found himself in the grasp of his opponent.  The warrior smashed the demon into the ground once, stunning it, before wielding it as a club, crushing his opponents into reddish black pulp.  "Who will face me and stand?" bellowed Guilo.

Black16 entered the fray within a few moments; shoulder ramming the first Khawlal he encountered, crushing its body with the force and flinging it into a group of its fellows.  The enraged demons rose to their feet and rushed Black16.  The first few were caught by a force ball, the concussive blast ripping apart their spiritual bodies.  Four more were only slightly injured and continued their assault.  The first swung its scimitar at Black16's head, but he dropped to the ground and kicked the creature in the knees, turning the joints in ways they were never meant to go.  As he rose he slashed the creature diagonally.  Black16 rammed his sword behind him, into the gut of a demon attacking from the rear.  With a quick burst of energy, the creature was blown into bits, rapidly fizzling away.  Three more demons piled atop him, holding him down while a fourth moved in and began to plunge a spear into his chest.  He winced from the piercing attack cutting into him.  A flail of white energy suddenly wrapped itself around the spear's shaft and tore it from the demon's grip.  The spear was hurled across the battlefield, into another demon.  The flail whipped around again, slicing through the Khawlal that held Black16 in place.  Black16 himself dispatched the last one.

"Well Kodesha, it seems I'm in your debt again," Black16 said, nodding toward the Michmah with the flail.  "Don't worry Ezekiel, I'm sure the debt will be repaid before the battle ends," she responded, slashing her flail through another demon.  "The Most High spoke with you: what is our next task?  Surely we wouldn't be gathered here unless a great battle awaits us."  Black16's chest glowed with blue energy, and when it faded his wound had vanished.  "A union between human and Khawlal seeks to loose Abbadon on Earth," he responded, blocking a blow with his sword and then vaporizing the demon with an energy blast.  "I suspect we are to stop the creature from being summoned, or at least try and pick up the pieces afterward."  Kodesha released an energy bolt that arced between her opponents, burning holes through about half a dozen.  "Then we should hope that this filth will be destroyed soon, or we may not reach your world in time."  "We can only fight," Black16 responded,  "and pray for strength..."

Meanwhile, Guilo had broken his club and was now hacking through great swaths of demons with his sword.  He felt a sharp pain from behind as his right arm fell to the ground.  He spun around, his sword slicing the demon that had just attacked him in half at the waist.  More demons began to approach him, anticipating an easy kill.  At least easier than before...  The arm fizzled away and at the same time blue energy began to make its way down Guilo's severed arm.  A moment later the arm was in its place.  A few of the demons stared in disbelief as Guilo grabbed the nearest demon by the head with his new arm and crushed it.  Guilo sized up his new foes, seized one by the ankles, and began to once again reduce demons to jelly.

After a few more moments of clubbing Guilo came upon Black16 and Kodesha, the duo still ripping through the ranks of darkness.  "My friends!" Guilo bellowed, "The battle goes well for us!"  Black16 responded after most of the demons backed away, having seen what two Milchmah could do and not eager to find first hand the power of three fighting in one spot.  "We can only hope that this is all our enemy sent, they seem to be retreating.  It seems we will be able to reach Earth in time."  One demon was foolish enough to rush forward, only to be met by energy blasts from three angles at once.  "Ezekiel!" came a loud call from above, "Another ten legions of Khawlal are marching on the city.  Ready yourself, for this will indeed be a great battle!"

Black16 shook his head.  "This indeed is going to be a great battle.  Let us hope we can win it in time..."
