The 5000th World Kaiju ARena Tournament
A Prelude to the "Three Keys Trilogy"

Round One

Shadow The Ultimate vs. Fury

"Damn it, it's hot out here," complained GWB as he walked with the other agents to the Avatar Quarters.  "I can't wait to get this over with!"

Dragitron hit him in the back of the head.  "Quit complaining!  You're representing the Agency here!  Now get in there and prepare for battle.  You, too, G64 and Fury!"  The three agents walked into the small building.  Drag called out to them.  "Fudge and I will be waiting in the stands.  Good luck!"

He walked towards the stands, when a man wearing a dark orange cloak pushed past him.  "Watch where you're going you moron!" Drag yelled.  The stranger stopped for a few seconds, but didn't turn around.  He began to walk away.  "Weirdo," Drag muttered.

Drag finally reached his seat.  The space next to him was empty.  Drag turned to the empty spot.  "Can you get a good view from here?" he asked.  A figure materialized.  It was Fudge.  "Yes," he answered.  "The middle section is a great place to view the fights."  The spiritual essence of Fudge looked around.  From the corner of his eye, he saw a man wearing a black cloak.  When he looked a second time, the man had disappeared.  "That was odd.  Oh well."

From the announcer's booth, a deep voice boomed out over the entire ARena.  "Welcome everyone to the Virtual ARena here in pristine Tokyo, Japan!"  The roar of the crowd began to drown him out.  "Today we will bear witness to the 5000th World Kaiju ARena Championship!  Sixteen avatars and their kaiju are here vying for the title of World Kaiju Champion!  Now, our first match is between Shadow The Ultimate and Fury Of Power X!"

The two competitors entered their observation pods on opposite ends of the battlefield.  Fury looked around.  "This place is huge!  Well, I hope you're ready, Shadow!"  His opponent nodded.  A low rumbling emitted from the ground.  Slithering around the skyscrapers, Manda entered the ARena.  The serpent's long body coiled around the tallest building in the virtual city.  It hissed its challenge at Fury, who just smiled.  "Looks like I should introduce my new kaiju.  We've trained for several months.  Let's see what you can do, Baragon!"

The ground trembled.  People in the stands were dropping their food and drink.  Suddenly from the center of the ARena the concrete erupted in a shower of tar and cement.  Baragon had arrived, and roared in defiance at Manda.

The announcer addressed the audience.  "All right folks!  The box is locked, the lights are on, and it's KAIJU FIGHTIN' TIME!"

Baragon charged toward Manda's position.  The serpent thought it was safely above Baragon, but Manda was wrong.  With a huge jump, Baragon leaped onto the skyscraper, effectively knocking it over.  Manda was caught off-guard and struggled to keep its balance.  The building collapsed in a shower of debris.  When the dust settled, Baragon was alone.  "Already?  You did good, Baragon!" exclaimed Fury.  The kaiju roared in acknowledgement.

Suddenly, Manda's snake-like form curled around Baragon's body from the rubble.  Baragon clawed at his foe to no avail.  The serpent constricted and began to crush Baragon's body.  He fell to the ground as Manda began to tighten its grip.  A roar of pain escaped Baragon's mouth.  He rolled around but it was useless.

Drag jumped out of his seat.  "Is that legal?!  Get that snake off of him!"  Fudge pulled him down.  "Stop that, you're embarrassing me!"

Baragon's movements slowed down.  He grew tired and limp.  "Manda, release your grip.  Finish him!" called out Shadow.  The serpent obliged.  It loosened its hold, then maneuvered around to Baragon's tail.  Manda opened its mouth wide, attempting to swallow Baragon whole.

Fury smiled.  "Now, Baragon!"  Instantly Baragon's eyes flashed open.  He jumped up, dodging his foe, then landed on Manda's back.  The serpent god had the air knocked out of it.  Trying desperately to catch its breath, Manda attempted to slither away.  Baragon, however, remained on top of his foe.  He gripped Manda in his mouth by the neck, thrashed about, and held on tight as he moved off of Manda's back.  The snake whipped its tail at Baragon's head, but the monster would not release his hold.  He tossed Manda to the side.  The god shook its head to shake out the cobwebs, then launched an assault at Baragon.  The quadruped dug under the ground and Manda missed its target.

The ARena was silent for a moment.  Manda hissed at Baragon's hole.  Suddenly the ground quaked and Baragon appeared from beneath Manda.  He rammed his nasal horn into Manda's stomach, sending the god flying into the air.  Manda began to descend, landing on top of a building.  It collapsed from the weight.  From the rubble, Manda slowly slithered towards Baragon, then collapsed in exhaustion.

"We have a winner!  Baragon and Fury will move on to the Quarterfinals!"  shouted the announcer.  The crowd cheered as Fury waved to his audience.  Drag and Fudge were impressed.  "Now if only the other two can top that," Drag grumbled, trying to conceal his joy.  Fudge just laughed and continued cheering.
