The Strange, Sick World of Ranma 1/2

Ranma is the story about a boy who is cursed and transforms into a girl when hit by cold water. The series is a chronical of his wacky adventures, meeting strange, violent martial arts, most of whom also have cursed forms.

Common Thing:
Many of the Ranma fighters have cursed forms. These ones have a "water meter" under their life bars. Once hit with several water elemental hits, they transform. Most will change back after a little while, their cursed forms being less useful, if not useless. Ranma does not change back however. The temperature of the water does not matter at all.

Ranma

Saotome Ranma is a 16 year old boy whose father is a disciple of the Anything Goes Martial Arts School. He began training almost before he could walk. When his father, Genma, decides they should train at a legendary training ground called Jusenkyo, they both fall in the cursed springs. While his father becomes a panda when he gets wet, poor Ranma becomes a red-haired girl with large breasts. Ranma is then engaged to marry Tendo Akane without either of the young martial artists input. Ranma is completely honorable, but isn't above taking advantage of his curse to get free food from admiring shop owners. Ranma is very egotistical and takes a lot of pleasure in tormenting Akane. PS: I have only seen the first 2 seasons and played some old SNES roms.
Sex Change: Ranma can start in either form. S/he can transform either by using Ranma's taunt or by being hit with several water elemental attacks. There are a couple of differences. For one, Male Ranma is male and Female Ranma is female for characters where the opponent's gender matters. Also, they have slightly different stats. If you look at the picture, you can also see that female Ranma is shorter than male Ranma, and the length of their limbs are effected in the same way. So male Ranma's punches and kicks have a little more ranged than female Ranma's.

Strategy: Ranma is a solid melee fighter in either form. The only move that has real range is his Dragon Burst projectile. Stay in close with his extremely quick punching attacks. The Anything Goes Vault can be used to roll under projectiles and high attacks to move back in if you are sent back.

  • Mikado & Azusa

The so-called Golden Pair of figure skating. The pair ends up having a Martial Arts Skating Match against Akane and Ranma because of Azusa's bad habits. Azusa (the girl) has a habit to name cute things and take them home with her. When she steals P-Chan, Akane's pet piglet, the two pairs fight. Mikado (the guy?) seeks to find a girl, any girl, to kiss to make a world record of kissing one thousand girls. The player has direct control over Mikado, while Azusa is more of a projectile. If she is hit, she kneels on the ground says "Itai (Ouch)" a few times.

Strategy: Mikado and Azusa are a team. When Azusa is temporarily knocked down, Mikado's moves that use her are weakened or maybe even completely disabled. Since Azusa is usually standing behind Mikado, it is the players job to keep her protected.

  • Chain Combo, Pirouette Spiral or Golden Pair or Flying Sickle
  • Sweep Combo, Sleet Slide
  • Chain Combo, Launcher, Deadly Skies or Dance of Death

  • Cologne

Cologne is Shampoo's ancient grandmother. She is well over 300 years old and the leader of the Amazon tribe Ranma meets in China. After Shampoo fails to kill or marry Ranma, Cologne returns with Shampoo to force Ranma to marry Shampoo. She hops around on her staff, using it like a pogo-stick.

Strategy: A weird old lady on a stick. The stick can actually prove to be a liability. Since she is only small, her limbs are really short, but her effective height is medium, making it easier to hit her. Hitting the stick counts as a sweep, regardless of the type of attack.
    Combos:
  • Chain Combo, Cat's Paw or Sweet Chestnut Staff or Cat's Curiosity
  • Sweep Combo, Sweet Chestnut Staff or Snow Swirl or Cat's Curiosity
  • Chain Combo, Launcher, Air Combo, Fist of the Bear
    Similar Fighters: None

Bonus Abilities: Double Jump, Air Dash

Taunt: catches a piece of chicken and starts eating it
Victory: Starts smoking her opium pipe

  • Happosai

The master and teacher of both Saotome Genma and Tendo Soun. He is the founder of the Anything Goes School of Martial Arts. Happosai is not only hundreds of years old, but he is also as depraved as you can get. He randomly attacks young girls to nuzzle in their breasts, steals (used) gym shorts from schools, and ducks out of restaurants without paying. Many have called him the Evil Spirit of Japan and he lives up to his expectations.

Strategy: Evil. He may be only a couple of feet tall, but he is incredibly powerful. Being so short, he is hard to hit. His limbs are small, but his specials and hypers cover a huge area. His normal, basic moves are fairly weak, but using his specials is almost a sure way to win
    Combos:
  • Chain Combo, Spirit Wave or Simple Touch or Panty Raid (on girls)
  • Sweep Combo, Equinox Blizzard
  • Chain Combo, Launcher, Air Combo, Spirit Wave or Simple Touch or Seiryu Spirit
    Similar Fighters: None

Stats: Power: 5 Energy*: 9 Defense: 4 Speed: 8 Strength: None Weakness: Women Ratio: 3 Size: T

    Special Moves:
Spirit Wave*: Fires a large beam attack from his hands. 4 hits (A)
Brassiere Blinders*: Throws a bra at the enemy, which tangles around their head, stunning. Unblockable.
Simple Touch*: Dashes through his enemy, causing moderate damage. Unblockable (A)
Simple Parry: Swings his pipe (C) countering his enemy's attack and flinging the victim in the air
Girl Lovin': Unless Happosai is in critical, there is a 50% chance he will not tag out.
Basic Throw: Grabs his enemy's butt and starts squeezing
Launcher: Swings a bra upward, scooping his opponent into the air

    Hyper Attacks:
Seiryu Spirit*: Summons the shape of a giant blue dragon which homes in on the enemy. 20 hits (W)(A)
Equinox Blizzard: Sends a tornado forward (C) which scoops up the enemy for quite a bit of damage. (B)
Anything Goes Spirit: Happosai grows from Tiny to Huge. Power increases by 3. Lasts 10 seconds.
  • Note: Ratio 1s are stunned the entire time. Ratio 2s for a single hit, Ratio 3 is uneffected.
Panty Raid: Girls only. Dashes through the girl, stealing her bra and underwear right off her body in a flash. Unblockable.
  • This only causes a little damage, mostly due to embarrassment. More of an insult than a hyper.

Enter: Breaks out of a pile of rocks with Shinto bless markers on it
Taunt: Takes out an urn and starts playing with his bra collection
Victory: A girl's gym class runs by and Happosai starts drooling and runs after them off screen. Screams closely follow.
