A Failed Lesson in Tact

The other day I was having lunch with an old friend from my former company who got laid off in the same round as I did. Anyway he told me that his roommate, whose job has never been threatened, just got bored with his job and went looking for a new one. He found one in three weeks! While all of our laid off engineering friends took about six months to a year to find jobs! Well, this guy is in finance, so maybe it's different for them, but anyway back to the story.

My friend said, "Maybe it's easier to find a job when you're still employed. You know, they think if you're still employed you must be better. Not like the lower caliber people who got laid off. Like me. eh-heh-heh..." And I was gonna jump in with, "And to WHOM do you think you're talking, HMMMMM??" But before I could say anthing, he looked up at the restaurant façade behind me and went, "OO! Look! Didja ever notice that when that shade of red is in the sun it looks different from when it's in the SHADE? WOOOoooOOOoooOOO...!" So I thought, "Okay, fine I'll go for it," and went "WOOOoooOOOooo, my goodness, you're right. And all the times we've eaten here, we've never noticed such a remarkable thing!"

He's a STEP up from my favorite line, "Oh look! A bird! (said while pointing to the nearest bird handy)." But not a very big one!
