Previously: Not that you would know, but in chapter 7 Vlad was killed by Shadow Walker and some others.
Eight years ago, The morticians went on strike. Their demands still haven’t been answered.
A dark morgue, very far away from that infamous house in mountainous Eurasia. Eyes flicker. A short woman sits up. Her tongue flattens out between ample fangs. “Death has been good to you, Leslie.” She says.
Leslie is walking down the street. She puts her hands in her pocket. “Bugger.” She crumples up her nose. “My arsenals gone.” Back when she was alive, there was a gunsmith shop down the street from the morgue. She figures that’s where she should head first. There’s no one in this town any more. Eight years do that to a town under the pig, anyway.
She gets to the shop. It’s closed. She kicks in the window. The alarm goes off. There is some old semis and very little else. She takes the semis, puts them in her coat pocket. Now, it’s off to find her sister. If in fact Vlad found her all those years ago. It’s a long walk to the living district. And, deity knows, the best place to catch a bus is the living district.
Meanwhile, back in mountainous Eurasia. Vlad is still dead. Majorine is asleep, and the rest of them are hard at work. In Noman’s Land, a cold acid rain has washed the bleach out of Noman’s cornrows. Tsuko awakens, this acid rain isn’t good. Tsuko senses bad omens. Tsuko grabs his pimp jacket and limps off towards the Nomansion. Tsuko finds him lying on the ground like way back in 6. Tsuko cocks his head. “Oh, Noman. You can’t die. You’re the Uncola.” And sure enough Noman’s not dead. He’s just a drama king. And has been lying still there for a couple of days.
Evening approaches. Leroy and Chinese Place Stu come home from work. Majorine wakes up. She pours some cereal. She eats the cereal, wonders why Vlad’s not home yet. He left a couple of days ago and never came back. She turns on the TV. The door opens. Leroy walks in. he works days now. Later Chinese Place Stu walks in the door. He sits on the sofa far from Majorine and Leroy. He wishes he could get close. A knock comes on the door. “Any of you have any appointments?” Majo asks. “We haven’t heard from Robin in a while? Does she still have her job?” The knocking continues. “Fine. Dammit. I’ll get it.” Leroy states. He opens the door. Leslie stands there. “Can I help you?” “Dopes Majorine live here?” “It depends whose asking.” “it’s her sister.” Leroy walks away from the door. “Hey, Majo. There’s spmeone who says they’re your sister. About 4’3”, white spiky mohawk, no pigment, red sundress, green pants, similar shoes to yours.” “Sound’s about right…. But she’s dead.” “Stranger things have happened.” Majorine goes towards the door. Everyone follows. Leslie smirks. “New shit-kickers, Majo?” she asks”it’s been a while. You’ve aged well, sister.” “Time ravages no one like death does.” “What the hell does that mean?” “I don’t know.” “Why are you alive, again? “Vlad’s dead. And I’m here to avenge him.” “Well, we didn’t kill him. We didn’t even know he was dead. Do you know who killed him. “Shadow Walker and Maggot.”
