Last Days of the Newark PCCs

The Newark PCC cars were finally replaced by LRVs in August, 2001 after 49 years of service on the city subway. 11 of the cars have been sold to San Francisco MUNI for F line service while the remainder await other fates. Here are a few photos taken in 2000 and 2001 when the end was near and pans were up.



Car 23 boards outbound at Broad St. This car has recieved a new life in San Francisco and has become MUNI 1071. It represents its original home system the Twin Cities. Here is a photo of the car in its new livery in San Francisco on nycsubway.org

Car 9 stops at Warren St. This car has become MUNI 1080 and wears the "Fruit Salad" livery of the LAMTA. Click Here to see a shot of the car in San Fran on nycsubway.org

14 rounds the bend approaching Orange St inbound. This car is now MUNI 1070 and carries the former Public Service of New Jersey blue / grey livery. Click Here to see a shot of the car in San Fran on nycsubway.org

Number 9 is inbound approaching Bloomfield Av. Still using the wayside traffic light signals in this view.

PCC 19 rounds the loop at Franklin. 5223 is on duty for the trackwork extension to Grove St. 19 has become MUNI 1078 painted in San Diego pea green. Click Here to see a shot of the car in San Fran on nycsubway.org
