BANG BANG MACHINE 15th March King Tut's Wah Wah Hut, Glasgow support : ? Went to this gig on the basis of one single, the excellent "Technologica", witnessed on tv a week or two previously. As it turned out, I wish I'd taken the time to get into more of the band's stuff beforehand, because the gig was truly great. Not knowing every word of every song made me feel a little left out though. Also, there were some pretty nifty t-shirts on sale, but sadly I was skint. However, none of this detracted from a great night, bruises and all. FRONT 242 6th October Brixton Academy, London support : Aphex Twin How desparate do you have to be to see a band to travel down to London on your own? So wanted to see these guys after their two fab albums in 93', but they weren't playing up in Scotland, so, only one thing for it. I wasn't wild about Aphex Twin, I've never really been bothered about his stuff, but the boys from Belgium made up for that. Who can forget "Headhunter" that night? The Brixton Academy's a great venue for a band like this, where everyone can just get a bit physical and enjoy it all. Great t-shirts on offer, but, fool that I am, I left them on the bus on the way back north. Ah well. OMD 4th December SECC, Glasgow support : ? To be honest, I'd have rather seen them about five to ten years ago, but, those of us rolling up to hear all the hits of years gone by were kept well happy with a stream of classics, old and new. I was worried I would miss this, as I was in Dundee during the day on football business, but luckily I made it back to Glasgow in time. The only minus point was the legendary acoustics of the big red shed, truly awful as I'm sure anyone who's been will agree. The t-shirts were a bit naff too, so I didn't bother. All of this made what should have been a classic night a little bit of a let-down. Still, at least I could say I'd seen "Maid of Orleans".
