things to do in darwin when you're dead (skint)

It's my own fault, I'm just too cautious for my own good. Here I am in a fabulous wee city, with loads of cheap pubs and a great lifestyle, and I can't really enjoy it 'cos I was played safe and left some of my money in Adelaide in case I blew it! All for the good in the long run, but it means that, after rent, I'm now scraping by on about $20 a day. However, this isn't as bad as it sounds, so here's a quick guide to surviving on a budget during the wet: breakfast at the hostel is free at the hostel and served between 8 and 10:30 (or something) It's only toast and tea and coffee, but hey, it's free. After brekkie, first shower of the day to try and cope with the heat, then into town for some early shopping. The book exchange has a great selection of Dr. Who and Star Trek novels, and they're only 2 or 3 dollars if you part-exchange with the one you bought (and read) the day before, so, that's your afternoon entertainment taken care of after just two bucks. As for lunch, the fresh section of Woolies is always good for some discounted, going-out-of-date pies, so you can usually pick up a Vili's for a dollar, and, along with some fries from Maccie-d's and cheap can makes a nice lunch for about four bucks. Afternoon's are best spent on the veranda avoiding the sun and reading, which usually takes you nicely up to about 3 o'clock. Then it's time for another shower and off to the Pub Bar on Mitchell Street for the happy hour which starts at 4: $3.50 pints, spirits and shooters! Couple of pints, and usually at least one mispoured bundy from Josh, bless him, and that's quite a pleasant evening, only seven bucks! So that's only about $13 spent, which leaves plenty of cash for either a treat from Red Rooster for dinner, or a few cans for back at the hostel in front of the telly (after another shower of course) Honestly, I reckon I should be chancellor of the exchequer, money's a piece of piss, eh?
