GO PURPLE FOR PREVENTION
As Early Childhood Educators, we all have a responsibility to educate the public
about issues concerning the health and well being of children. One method of
education is to raise awareness and understanding concerning the rights of each
child to live in a nurturing home, school and society. Unfortunately, many children
are denied this right and suffer from various forms of abuse. By advocating for
children, and speaking on their behalf, we can help prevent and eliminate child
abuse.
BOOST Child Abuse Prevention and Intervention (Toronto) and The Children's
Aid Society of Ontario designate October as “Go Purple for Prevention” month.
One day in October is chosen as “Purple Day” by other participating
organizations as their day to advocate. Both Humber College and Guelph-
Humber Early Childhood Faculty and Students actively participate each year.
