Crossbreed/Godhead/Rammstein

July 27, Star Plaza Theatre, Merrillville, Indiana

This was not a good night for me to be seeing Rammstein, as my workday had been hell and I was in severe pain from recent wisdom tooth removal, but nonetheless I was entertained. The show started on the dot at 8pm, with three bands: Crossbreed, Godhead, and Rammstein headlining.

We missed Crossbreed entirely, due to late arrival. I was not impressed with them much after hearing the CD my boyfriend bought. They are metal. They scream. They play guitars. The gimmick they apparently have going is being fluorescent. The album cover features the band members glowing an earthly blue...like a radioactive boyband. Our friends who had arrived there on time confirmed Crossbreed's glowability, but was also unimpressed.

Next up was Godhead, which I had heard some of before, especially their cover of Eleanor Rigby which had gotten club play in Cleveland. The music was decent, but the band didn't put on much of a show however. The bald lead singer seemed to have some kind of desire to be crucified, as he kept putting his arms out in a jesus-like fashion. My boyfriend was tempted to get out some nails. The music got my head bobbing...or maybe it was the pain...but I guess I wasn't really in the mood overall.

There was speculation among us inbetween sets as to how Rammstein was going to pull of all the their fire tricks...as we were in a venue that could have been my high school auditorium, complete with flammable curtains. The crowd was much less than we had expectde, but considering Rammstein was touring to promote album sales intsead of touring after the release had been out for a while, this made sense.

Rammstein came out...tricks up their sleeves, and started into the first track on their new CD Mutter. The large and very German front man was sporting a very large german mohawk. Even from several rows back I could see that a hug from him could probably be deterimental to my health, being that I come up to his knee.

The first song translates to "My Heart Bleeds". Tiel isn't kidding about his heart bleeding....in fact it began to glow and then it burst into red sparks right onstage. He held it aloft for cheering fans as he growled the song.
