SCHUTZENPANZER SDKFZ 250/3 COMMAND HALFTRACK IN 1/15 SCALE. The lightning of the German Blitzkrieg success would come from the armored command vehicle. All the successful military campaigns of the Third Reich would be channeled into the mastery of command communication. The German Wehrmacht would never have conceived of such popular conquest without the power of battlefield command communication. The power of mobile battlefield command communication was the key, without it, there would never have been a Blitzkrieg era. One of my all-time favorite command vehicles is the Schutzenpanzer sdkfz 250/3 command half-track. I’ve always wanted to build one in 1/15 scale. Since I was able to hold a pencil or paintbrush I have always tried to enjoy art. The technique to reproduce technical ability and creative imagination. Of all the models I have built, this one has been by far the most complicated model I have ever done, complete with full interior and engine detail. all kinds of mixed-media materials were used for this project, from resin , plastic, sheet styrene, aluminum, copper, brass, wood, white metal, plastic rod tubing, metal rod tubing, rubber, etched brass and of course, many hours to complete, mostly all very enjoyable and challenging, I was very pleased with the finished results, all the hard work had paid off. This is where I would find total fulfillment when all the artistic talent would be channeled into the mastery of the art of large scale armored modeling and scratch-building, to enchant and be enchanted by it. The German Schutzenpanzer sdkfz 250/3 command half-track has always had a special appeal to me, and has provided me with one of my greatest modeling pleasures. To the vast majority of modelers, it is important to make the point that construction techniques is everyone’s own personal standard, this is only a hobby, enjoyment and personal satisfaction from your efforts should be the overriding consideration, it is all about taking the alteration yourself, the key in all modeling is experimenting, we model first and foremost for our own pleasure (personalize it to our hearts content) As a potential modeling inspiration for my readers and viewers, I present here a few pictures of my finished Sdkfz 250/3 command half-track in 1/15 scale, as I believe the photos speak for themselves. The largest single obstacle to the success of the allies in the North African campaign was the Deutsche Afrika Korps-Panzer Armee Afrika, one destined to become one of the most famous and formidable elites in military history. The name of General Erwin Rommel was directly associated with that force. The German Afrika Korps appeared on the North African desert and its performance amazed the world, almost immediately the German Afrika Korps had earned general admiration and respect, The Afrika Korps with varied limited means they were able to perform amazing feats, The North African campaign showed Rommel to be a military genius, history had already started to recognize this most startling of Rommel’s characteristics: his military genius. Friend or foe all acknowledge that Rommel was a man of exceptional military genius, flashing across the North African desert in a blaze of glory, he began one of the most spectacular and fantastic combat careers ever recorded, his meteoric climb to fame, Rommel performed herculean tasks, they were superhuman and astonishing achievements, all performed with feverish uninterrupted activity. No military figure in the second world war was more celebrated than General Erwin Rommel. The Afrika Korps commander became the attention and central figure of the world news media as the greatest commander of all time, he was featured on the front covers of both TIME and LIFE magazines as the man of the year in 1942, the entire world news media had marveled at this extraordinary German General with a style unlike any others, the whole world could not help but be impressed, his image and his military exploits to the world news media would be a saturation which would enhance his reputation to the utmost degree, for them, Rommel was the most exceptional man ever seen, as one of the greatest legends in military history. He was the recipient of the most highest honors: The Knights Cross, the oak leaves, the swords, the coveted Diamonds, the Gold German Cross, the Italian Medal for Bravery and many other decorations for outstanding valor under enemy fire. Rommel fought a war with skill and bravery in the finest military tradition, Rommel was a chivalrous soldier in the best knightly tradition, Rommel and his Afrika Korps fought valiantly, his exploits became legendary, the Afrika Korps, and especially Rommel, will always occupy a special place in the imaginations of those who are keenly interested in the history of men under arms. What Rommel said in his book “Infanterie Greift an” when he wrote and formed his military doctrine, he told the truth, and in the war in the desert his observations would become the order of the day, Rommel had an inner strength and was guided by his spirit and his instinct, improvisation would ultimately blend with his passion for tactical innovation, Rommel was a silent spectator, but nothing escaped him, yet quietly observing everything around him, his strength came from within, he did not rely on anyone to do his thinking for him, exceptional human beings always feel lonely amid the vast human throng, Rommel saw his solitude as a wonderful opportunity to meditate and not to be submerged in a mindless sea, in order not to be lost in the wastes of a sterile desert, a strong soul seeks refuge within himself, Rommel was such a soul. On the very last day of Rommel’s life, with extraordinary composure on the eve of his death, provides us a lasting testimony, he then went to his death as if he were going on a stroll, when has history ever witnessed so enormous a tragedy brought to its end with such iron-self control? He had lived the immense tragedy that was the second world war. It is hard to imagine another such destiny where a man started with so little and reached such heights, where thousands of others had a thousand times more opportunity to leave their mark on the world, history had a special place for him, a place to which he was most strongly called, into an immortal form. Considering the fact that history is “merely propaganda written by the victors” where everything is just focused primarily on the allied side and prospective, which is all just one sided propaganda, but never place considerable emphasize on the Axis point of view and their perspective. The allies have all come to realize the fact that many of Rommel’s military operations were rightfully called strokes of genius, the allies themselves have made this extraordinary admission. It has been the misfortune that the history of World War II has been willfully misrepresented and maligned in history. It is an unusual historical fact and phenomenon , when one studies the history of World War II, its evolution across the decades, one observes that always, at all times and at all places, it is all just a one sided story, and we should all ask ourselves a question, does it really correspond to the truth? It has been often said that the first casualty of war is truth, and historical truth became a casualty. Do the mountains of “Definitive books” of World War II that all have been rushed to print since 1945 all based on defamation, revenge, and blink hatred try to present an objective portrayal of the second world war? How, we ponder, do these thousands of disparate portraits of World War II in a way resemble the enigma of the second world war with its many unsettled historical debates? Britain and France had made it a world war after Germany invaded Poland, when the USSR did the same thing and invaded Poland 15 days later and extended its greedy hands and even invaded the Baltic countries (Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania) and snatched Bessarabia from the Rumanians and invaded part of Finland, how come the allies neglected to declare war on the USSR? Everybody called for the USSR’s withdrawal but no one dared declare war on the USSR when it refused to budge. The universality of the enigma of World War II is a vast field of study and may surprise or displease those unaware of it, but it is nonetheless a historical fact: People have come to accept fiction, repeated a thousand times over, as reality. After 1945 the Axis nations were accused of every cruelty, the international press unleashed a massive campaign of outright lies and distortions against the Axis nations in a relentless press onslaught. In secular quarrels which history has still not sufficiently clarified, was the second world war really as it has been described? What were the faults, or even the crimes, of both sides? Have their respective aims always been evaluated objectively? Has not enemy doctrine been misrepresented either through failing to give it proper consideration, or deliberately because propaganda demanded it? Were not plans attributed to the enemy, and acts assumed to have taken place, whose real existence has never been substantiated? What I attempted to show is that there is always two sides to a coin. Where everything is delivered by their side and none from the other, of the victory of their side and the victimization of the other. This is just one contribution to the history of World War II and to help out set the historical record straight. The history of World War II, when examined with academic seriousness, shows how the allies used “Ultra” the breaking of the Axis enigma code machine messages, provided the allied leadership with all the secret information needed in their campaigns against the Axis forces is now understood. As of spring of 1940, the allied secret service was reading the German “Enigma” code machine messages. This most clandestine of all secret operations of World War II was designated “Ultra Secret” meaning the highest level of secrecy. “Ultra” became the pivotal wining element of the western allies intelligence and formed the basis of all numerous tactical and operational decisions. The allies were decoding and intercepting all the Axis messages transmitted by the Axis “Enigma” code machine. “Ultra” began to provide an unmistakably clear picture of the enemy. It had been the allies ear in the enemy’s camp, thus, thanks to “Ultra” and the intercepted and decoded messages, World War II was a war which was offered to the allies on a silver platter.
