When most christians try to explain some things to non-believers about their religion, most of them use their holy bible to try to explain some stuff about how good there religion is. The problem that I have with this is that when most christians do use their religious scriptures to explain how good their religion is, they only explain the good stuff in their bible and leave out the bad stuff for some strange reason. Here I am going to explain how some christians do the pick n' mix religious stuff. Taking all the good stuff in and leaving the bad stuff out.
Most christians nowadays want their kids or other kids to read the bible because they think there are stories in the bible that have good influences on them. Hell, they even have bibles for kids at a local christian store that is probably about 25 blocks from your house. Anyway, the problem that I have with most christians trying to teach their kids or other kids about the bible is that, like I said before, teach them the good things in the bible and leave out the bad stuff. For instance, I know of a sunday school I attended back when I was about 11 or 12 that taught me and other kids back then about the "Noah Ark" story and how this "god" flooded the world for 40 days and 40 nights and have Noah create a ark and filled the ark with a male and female animals of all species into the ark. Then when the flood stop, noah and the animals lived happily ever after(I know I'm skipping all the plots in this story, but I don't plan on boring anyone with long details, so relax). Not once and not ever have I heard my sunday school teacher mention any of the bad stuff that came out of that "Noah's Ark" story like Noah became drunk and his daughters had sex with him (or vice versa) or the fact that people have died from the flood just because this god didn't like the way the people were acting (...and how is the bible a good influence on kids by the way?). I don't know if most christians are trying to keep their kids from having nightmares about things like this or what. Also, I'm not putting this here just to try to tell most christians how to raise their kids. However, I would think that if most of them really want their kids to learn everything about their bible, then at least tell the whole story, not just parts of it.
The next thing that bother me about some christians taking the good stuff out of their bible and leaving out the bad stuff is when it comes to most of them trying to convert others into their lifestyles, just because they do not like others lifestyles or they think that their lifestyle is a sin according to the bible. For instance, mostly everyone are very aware of televangelist like Mr. Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson that is on the 700 club or some other christian talk show and constantly attack the gay community because in the chapter of Leviticus, it says that homosexuality is a big NO NO! I have met other people that are anti-homosexual too that quote bible verses that clearly states that homosexual is not right. However, the problem that I have with this is that how come they only speak of that particular bible verse in that chapter to try to convert someone's lifestyle into their own, but yet they haven't mention anything else in that chapter like parents killing their children just being disobedient for example. There are other things that the bible says that is a big no no too like working on the sabbath day, eating shellfish on a certain day is wrong, and stoning a woman that is not a virgin is right (...and how the hell can I take the bible seriously with rediculous verses like this). However, I don't see them enforcing or even mentioning any of those bible verses to anyone when they are trying to convert someone.
To add on to the story, whenever I come across most christians, most of them seem to have a very different intepretation of the holy bible. Have you ever come across any number of christians that have agreed to the same things that is in the bible? There is one christian that I have met that believes that god and jesus are two different characters, while the other believes that they are the same characters, inspite of whatever the bible (the same bible that they are reading from BTW which is the KJV) says. Of course this is probably not surprising as the bible itself seems ambigious when it comes to any type of information at all. Anyway, the way I see it, when some christians do follow the bible, I personally think they pick stuff in the bible that sounds good to them to help out their lifestyle and leave out the bad stuff like I said over and over again.
I do have more to add to this story, and it is pertaining to some christians thinking that other non-christian religions are the same, but I'm going to put that under another topic.
