Where I'm From

I am from televisions,
From square-cut controllers.
I am from the "nobodies."
(Alone and afraid,
With not a soul for a friend.)
I am from the playground,
From the sharp itchy mulch
That stuck to my skin,
As nails to a tire.

I'm from black cats,
From stray hair and claws
I'm from the best,
Yet thought as the least.
I'm from cruelty, the words,
The phrases "You're so stupid."
"Shut up." "Go away."
I'm from hard plastic seats,
From sitting and waiting,
For the end to come,
For the torture to end.

I'm from The Hobbit,
From hours to days,
(All lost in my world.)
I'm from genius,
From putting away, and forgetting.
I'm from solitude,
From harsh words, and gestures.
I'm from revolution,
From defying the trend.

I'm from a world,
Full of hate and insanity;
Taunts and teases.
I'm from harshness,
From misunderstanding.
I'm from the worst.
Yet now, I live for the best.
