History:
In early times, before magic was truely defined. Things were simpler.
The Powers of Water, Fire, Earth and Wind were the basis of science
and alchemey. When magic started becoming more common, the first
mages were those that commanded the elements themselves. Later, these
mages focused on only certian elements and developed new ablities or
magics supriror to that then 4 elements because they focused on only
one type. Not all the mages agreed on which way would be best and all
went they're seprate ways.
Kazuma, the sole heir to the Higarashi clan inherited his Magical
Markings early as was per family tradition. He was rasied to carry on
the family name and to keep the balance of magic in check. Members of
the Higarashi family often participated in the Holy Grail war even if
not as masters simply to keep the balance of power. The Holy grail to
them is like the scales of fate. One must be equal in both Light and
Dark, good and evil, to truely gain from it. To that end, Kazuma was
trained in all sorts of elemental magic should he even become a
Master. When the last holy grail war broke out, Kazuma was not
selected as a master and his father Ryouga Higarashi went in his place
to moniter the war from the outside but did not return. This time,
Kazuma is more interested in finding out about what happened to his
father than keeping the balance of powers.
Kazuma, being trained in balanced powers, can use magic fairly well.
He has no major strong point in the the way of say Emiya Shirou, who
according to Kazuma would be primarialy an Earth user. But nor does
he lack a major weakness other then his lack of magical focus.
One such example would be like thus. Emiya could create weapons from
nothing where as Kazuma would require the materials on hand.
Will Kazuma be devored his search? Will he obtain the Holy Grail? Or
will he fall into the darkness that is very much apart of all things?
Only time can tell.
Why do they want the holy grial: It is a key to power and knowledge.
