Mama I'm Comin' Home
Today I finished my last
paper, and thus am done with my first year of
grad school! Woohoo! Let me tell you, it was fun.
First there was historiography, or the history of history. Who cares? I
thought this class was the biggest waste of time until I had what was
supposed to be a class to teach me how to teach, but instead turned into
a seminar on colonial Philadelphia. Sorry for the run on, but I mean,
I'm a Holocaust historian, how will knowing anything about Philadelphia
in 1700s help me out there? Anyone who can explain this to me will win
a t-shirt. (I'm serious)
Then there are my fellow grad students. See, apparently they look like
grad students, but mentally, they're junior high. Case in point, on my
birthday, one wanted to leave after 40 minutes because she wasn't the
center of attention, and thus she was bored. Ok, now lets say my
grandmother just died and I wanted to talk. This is the type of girl
that would tell you to "get over it" just so everyone would look at her.
Yes, these are really 20-somethings. By the way, this would be the
same girl who I had to tell to "grow the f**k up" in Arlington National
Cemetery when we were in DC.
Next we have the winter that lasted until April. Let me tell you
something. When I took a tour of this campus before I applied, they told
me it hardly ever snowed. I was wading through the stuff all the way
through March. And forget about the sidewalks being clean- it was
easier to walk in the street.
Don't even get me started on my neighbors... this is a family kolloumn.
The only good things about BG- the fact I get to go to France for Free
and the black squirrel with white ears. He rocks. Everyday he looks
into my window to make sure I'm ok, and then I give him peanuts. It's
use-use, but hey, at least he doesn't talk back.
So I'm happy that I'll be home in 4 days. Hopefully the French won't
pick on me too bad. I think they got it right for once with the whole
Iraq thing. But I'm sure Germany'll invade them again, and it'll be
back to the dumb French jokes.
Tune in next week as I get readjusted to life in South Bend.
Until next week, PS Bob Dole, you're a @#$*
Luv, Kelly
