One of the few people at BGSU that I can stand is Alison, a
first-year MA. She is a freak for Barenaked Ladies. In fact, as of the OSU
show, she'll have seen them 18 times (and some of you thought I was nuts for
seeing Dave Matthews Band 4 times). So, she mentioned that
the band would be in Columbus, OH, and I have always wanted to see them, so
I was like "Let's go." So Alison orders tickets through her fan club
membership, and the next thing you know, my butt was 4th row center at the
Mershon auditorium at OSU. (FYI: 4th row is the worst seats she's ever
received through the fan club). So I was in for 3 hours of Barenaked fun!
To begin, there was no opening act, so the band played for 3 hours, with an
intermission (understandable). Before the intermission, they took Q and A
from the audience. A guy named Keith, who brought his saxophone and asked
if he could play a song with them. This caused BNL and Keith to break out
into the Wham! classic "Careless Whisper" and it rocked the party that
rocked the body. Good times.
After the intermission, they played a few songs acoustically, which included
their biggest US hit "One Week." I believe this song sounds way better
acoustically than on the album "Stunt." They also played three encores, of
which included "Brian Wilson" and "Pinch Me." Overall a great show.
However, the fun was not over. Since Alison has seen them 18 times, she
knows how to meet the band. So we hang out by the tour buses, and
eventually they come out and I got to meet the band. All of them took
pictures with me (Ed and I are below), and they are the nicest guys on the
face of the planet. I mean, they had to be tired after the show, but they
stuck around to meet every single fan that stood outside in the cold,
brought their sharpies, signed whatever you asked (minus the boobies) and
took pictures, talked, whatever the fans wanted. All the them said "thank
you" for attending the show. I was like "thank you for rocking my world."
So for all of you reading this out there in internet land, go out and buy
their new album "Everything to Everyone" and go see them in concert. I
promise you'll never regret it. And if you do, then I owe you a Coke.
So now I need to get down from my celebrity high. Take care y'all!
Luv, Kelly :)
