No thanks to Mel Gibson's "The Passion of the Christ,"
Jesus, God, and the Christian religion are everywhere. Look at CBS- they've
hit gold with the show "Joan of Arcadia," where a teenage girl sees God
everywhere and he sends her on all kinds of wacky adventures so she'll learn
some really important life lesson. However, and this will probably ruffle a
few feathers, but I think it's sad that religion is the new fad. Just
because some B-list celebrity suddenly found Jesus after seeing Gibson's
film does not mean that everyone should follow along. There are just some
things that you listen to your heart about.
In case you care, here is my review of "The Passion of the Christ:"
For 100 of 120 minutes of this film, J.C. is getting the crap beaten out of
him. The violence was so gratuitous that I could not physically even look at
Jesus for 3/4 of the film. It almost made me wonder if Mel Gibson was
working anger issues out on Jesus for some reason. I mean, J.C. was the
original hippie- all he wanted was for everyone to love one another, and Mel
had to beat him up over it. I know Gibson was going for historical accuracy,
but was all that violence really, truly necessary? After all, we should be
looking more at Jesus's core message, not how he was beaten and tortured to
death.
There were no surprises in the plot, unless your not Christian and had this
stuff crammed down your throat all your life, then some things in this movie
may come as a shock to you. However,
I think it's one of the best anti-Death Penalty arguments that I've seen in
a while. Overall, if you go see this movie, do not eat before hand.
So until next time... Kelly :)
