Well, my time of living in Bowling Green is almost over.
And it couldn't come soon enough. This Saturday, the undergrads decided it
would be entirely appropriate to scream on their way back to the dorms at 4
am! I was hoping they'd all get frostbite or mauled by a rabid squirrel,
but no such luck. Then, Little Drummer Boy (a.k.a. my upstairs neighbor)
thought it would be fun to wake me up at 9am on Sunday with his gawd-awful
music.
If that isn't fun enough, there are my students who are getting
progressively worse as the semester has gone on. As I was grading their
latest work, I've discovered that the highest grade I've given so far is a
55/70, and the lowest is a 15! I think this confirms my suspicions that
none of them can read. And the scary thing is, they'll all want to be
teachers one day. *Shudders*
I can honestly say that I will not miss Bowling Green, OH, or its school
BGSU. It's like living in Knox, IN, but with a college. It's not just the
students that I have a problem with, but the townies as well. I remember
one of my friends saying how South Bend was one of the most closed-minded
areas that she ever lived in. Well, at least in the Bend people don't
practically hit a FEMALE for making an anti-Bush comment. It's like living
in the heart of GOP country.
There are some things I'll miss about this place. I did like both of my
bosses this past year. My advisor has always been great to me. And I did
make a couple of good friends, and hopefully I'll be able to keep in touch
with them once I'm gone. But other than that, I'm ready to go.
