[nme.com ssc article - victim's response]
[rant 2 - jamie oliver]
Hmmmmm, this is where I get stuff off my chest. Those of you who know me might want to take cover.
For starters, So Solid Crew. One of the idiot gang punched a 16 year old Cardiff schoolgirl when she refused his sexual advances.
"The singer in the chart-topping garage act hit the girl with such force that her jaw split into two pieces and needed three metal plates to be put back together."
He punched her so hard it broke her jaw. Is it me or is that a pretty hard punch? So anyway, comes to court, he gets a £1500 fine. Woooo.
Judge Christopher Llewellyn-Jones told Weir: "You are a young man on the brink of a career which may be extremely successful - we do not know. I am satisfied on the evidence that a prison sentence would undoubtedly have a significant, adverse effect." The girl's lawyers are trying to get a prison sentence, which is frankly what he deserves, but what message does this send out?? That it's alright for a member of a hip-hop crew (who, despite it being a cliche, do influence many, many young people) to hit young girls because they won't sleep with them?
This really really got to me, which is unusual. But there's more. A few weeks later, SSC were in the news because of shootings at their Brixton Academy show. Now, aren't we being a bit pathetic?? You people don't live on the west or east coast of the US, you live in South London. Then they release a statement saying that they 'abhor violence'.
When SSC first started getting attention, I thought they were slightly silly, slightly annoying cockneys. But fine, people will listen to it. Now I just think they're completely contemptible. And the response from nme and the face? NME said that 'he wasn't the first person in music to act reprehensibly and he won't be the last' and Face said that they deplore violence, but applaud enterprise and SSC have stacks of it. Both magazines have publicised SSC a lot in the past few months; it's a pity they're being so coy. But next week there's a big NME SSC interview, supposedly asking them about all this. We shall see.
Hannah would like to point out that though she speaks a lot about violence and killing people who bug her, and while she writes it sometimes, she would never actually go out and shoot someone, or indeed, hurt them physically.
