The Wiccan Sabbats

Like every religion, Wicca has its holidays. These days are celebrated every year. The holidays are mainly the solstices and half points in-betweeen.

Yule - December 21
This sabbat celebrates the rebirth of the sun. It's the winter solstice. A fire and a Yule log are usually seen on this day. A piece of the Yule log is kept to light next year's log, it's also used to protect the home during the year. It is also believed that this is the beginning day of the Wheel Of The Year.
Imbolc - February 2
Also known as Candlemas, this day marks the midpoint between Yule and the vernal equinox. This day also marks the recovery of the Goddess after giving birth to the God during Yule. In tradition after sunset, every lamp and candle in the house is lit in honor of the Sun's rebirth.
Ostara - March 21
This is the first true day of spring. YAY! The days get longer and the nights get shorter. Life is renewed and many plant flowers and trees to celebrate this factor.
Beltane - April 30
This day celebrates the merging of the Goddess and God, as the young God moves into manhood. The Goddess's fertility is celbrated aswell. It's the time for flowers and blossoming! This is also a good time to get hitched! Meaning a hand fasting, meaning a Wiccan marriage. A hand fasting usually takes place in a very natural area, like a forest or meadow.
Midsummer - June 21
This day is also known as the summer solstice. It is a perfect time for all kinds of magick and spells. The power of nature is at its peak. It is also the longest day of the year.
Lughnassadh - August 1
This holiday is also known as Lammas. This is the time for the first harvest of the year. The God begins to lose his strength as the days get shorter. Nothing in nature remains constant at this time and we are reminded of this on this holiday.
Mabon - September 21
All harvests are completed and the days and nights are equal once again. The God prepares himself for his journey towards renewal and rebirth from the Goddess. All of Nature prepares for the frosty winter ahead.
Samhain - October 31
Everyone bids farewell to the God and he prepares still to be reborn from the Goddess at Yule. It's time to reflect on the past year and the coming of the greatest change in life and death. We remember our ancestors and loved ones this day. It's a prefect day to try to communicate with our dead friends and family. It's a good time to do a spell to rid oneself of bad habits. This marks the end of the year.
