For this costume, I bought the fake pleather that Jo-Ann Fabrics sells, though in retrospect I wished I had found a fabric that was black on front and back. Mine had white backing. The good thing about this heavy pleather was that it supported the belts' weight admirably. Many of the belts were made out of the same material as the dress, and a few of nylon straps.

Online I have seen quite a few Lulu costumes that have lace around the bottom and at the sleeves, but I actually drew my patterns on with color pencils and sewed that fabric onto the already-there sleeves. I may at some point replace the drawings with lace or cutouts, simply because the color on the fabric doesn't stand up to a lot of rough use.
