For
Rikku's top I used white jean fabric (as
I did with Selphie), then dyed it with
Rit dye. I found I couldn't get into the
top if it had only a simple zipper in the
back because of my broad shoulders, so I
put zippers up the sides that close
downwards and seal at the armpit to make
armholes. It can be a bit hard to get on at times,
but I feel it makes the costume more
realistic.
The
shorts were Lei shorts I broke down and bought, cut,
and dyed to match. Everything took a lot longer
than I expected, but I'm proud of the costume.
The boot covers were especially hard, mainly because I
tried very hard to mold the fabric to my legs. I
put on metal where the green strips end. After
several cons in this costume, I have found the best
way to keep the boot covers up is rubber bands tucked
on the inside of them. Silly, but true.
My
favorite aspect of this costume is the blue flaps. I
needed to outline them with white, but I didn't want
to paint them. I ended up sewing white
electrical tape down the sides, and not only does it
look crisp and not get dirty, but it gives the flaps a
really nice weight.
