Isolation

I am a creature of the night,
Always darkness, never light.
Heed my warning, hear my plea.
Your first instinct, should you see me,
Will be to turn, to run, to flee.

And well you should, for I am death,
Never again to draw a mortal breath.
But I implore you, please don't go.
You have much I'd like to know.
Things, to me, that you may show.

What's life like? I can't remember.
Mine faded long ago, a spent cinder.
The fire no longer burns so bright,
Now the moon is my only light,
The sun is not a thing of night.

Do you remember the sun beating gently down,
On lush green grass, when flowers dotted the ground?
The warm breeze flowing softly through the air?
This wonder I can no longer share,
The night is filled with my cold despair.

What also is the love of another?
Just to enjoy the presence of each other?
Deadly is my love, and worse is my hate.
My wicked thirst I can never sate,
Just one of my many terrible traits.

Enjoy your life, short though it may be,
And when you're upset, just think of me.
Remember things aren't quite so bad.
You'll never be eternally sad,
Removed from all you've ever had.

Farewell, and thank you for your time,
And for forgiving my terrible crime.
For your caring, you'll be saved from my ire,
You'll be free of my unnatural desire.
And you'll have lived to tell of what transpired,
Here, between you... and a vampire.
