Albums of Purgatory interview Agent Purple's Randy

Albums of Purgatory: Firstly, whats the band up to right now?

Randy: We're takin' some time off to record our cd and write some new stuff. We're also putting the final touches on our annual Helloween show.

AoP: How would you describe the Agent Purple sound?

R: Man, that's a little tough. We listen to so much stuff and are influenced by so many things. And our sound changes from song to song. So I would say our sound is Diverse, but it's all rock.

AoP: How did you get involved with the band?

R: Me and Hank (lead guitar) started the band.

AoP: Have you been involved in any other projects?

R: Me, a whole bunch. I'm in afew bands now. And Ryan(rhythym guitar) is in a side project. But that's about it.

AoP: Can you remember your first gig (how did it go)?

Yes, it was great. It was at P's & Q's. It was me, Hank, Josiah (drums).  We played maybe six songs and got bombarded with people asking for shirts, CD's, etc.  It was pretty exciting, especially because we didn't think anyone would like us.

AoP: What are your favourite Agent Purple tracks?

R: Fractionize, Aneurysm, Pressure/Stricken, Love Song, and Virus Revolution (new song)

AoP: What are your favourite all time songs?

R: anything by Pink Floyd kicks ass; Mindless Self Indulgence - Molly, Pussy All Night, Faggot; Everything by Spineshank;  anything by Mudvayne;
pretty much anything that comes from RoadRunner Records is sweet; and the list keeps going.

AoP: What was the first record you bought?

R: Run DMC - King of Rock

AoP: What would be your dream band line-up?

That would be a huge fucking band...

AoP: What do you think of the position of metal and music in general today?

R: Right now metal music is in the anal position, because it seems like every time I buy a CD from a new metal band, I feel like I'm getting fucked in the ass.  There are some really good underground rock bands, though.

AoP: Which other bands in the scene really stand out for you at the moment?

R: In our local scene, Abject Fear and Kuru really stand out.  In general, the bands that really stand out to me are bands that have been around for a while, like Soulfly and Mudvayne.  I think they're exemplary to what other bands SHOULD be.  Good music, good vocals, talented musicians, and MOST IMPORTANTLY, heart.

AoP: Do you have any funny stories about the band you can share with us?

R: Too many....  We're just retarded.  It never fails, there's always something stupid, weird make-out sessions, getting arrested, being beaten halfway to death by ourselves... it's a terribly long list.

AoP: and finally, what do you see in the future for Agent Purple?

R: Well, we'll die someday... but I'd love to be in the position of a band like Dream Theater.  They're huge, I mean, they go all around the world, see all kinds of stuff, but they're not mainstream famous. Which means they get to enjoy more of their life as a band.  Basically, if we can make a living off of it, that would be better than perfect.
