Albums of Purgatory: Firstly, whats the band up to?

Andrew Wright: We`ve recently recruited a new bass player, and are currently writing new material and gigging again.

AoP: How would you describe the Age of Ruin sound?

AW: Metal with groove, some would say with hints of hardcore.

AoP: How did the band begin?

AW: I wanted to form decent metal band, but other than our drummer Esson i didn`t know any other musicians or like minded people. Somehow I got put in touch with our original bass player mike, and through him we found Mark as our singer. We just took it from there.

AoP: You have toured with some big current names recently (Lostprophets, Raging Speedhorn).  What sort of fan and press responses have you had from those shows?

AW: Well to be honest, when we played with Speedhorn they weren`t that big at that point and didn`t really do any more for us than a standard gig would have done. But when we did a few dates with lost prophets, it was happening just at the time they were breaking and we got to play to a load of packed out venues which helped build our following, and introduce ourselves to a load of people that would probably never have come and seen us otherwise.

AoP: What are your favourite Age of Ruin tracks?

AW: Probably "your time" and "shame", off our latest demo/e.p. mainly because with those 2 I think we hit a sound that we were satisfied with and thought we would want to continue with.
AoP: What are your favourite all time songs and albums?

The Black album - Tallica
Revolver - Beatles
Appetite for destruction - G n R
Hey stoopid - Alice Cooper
Cowboys from hell - Pantera.
Deviate - Kill 2 This
Diary of a madman - Ozzy
Holy diver - Dio.

AoP: What was the first record you bought?

AW: Appetite for destruction.

AoP: What would be your dream band line-up?

AW: Pantera plus Zakk Wylde on Guitar.

AoP: What do you think of the position of metal and music in general today?

AW: Well obviously metal has become very mainstream, but it won`t last long, people are too fickle. At the moment metal is poular, I pefered when wasn`t popular but it wasn`t unpopular.

AoP: Do you have any funny stories you can share with us about the band?

AW: Everyday we`re together is hysterical, but only to us, no one gets our sense of humour.

AoP: and finally, what do you see in the future for Age of Ruin?

AW: Vans, the M1, empty venues, beer, maybe even an album.
