Albums of Purgatory interview Animus Corpus' Sakis Mitropoulos

Albums of Purgatory: Firstly, what are you up to right now?

Sakis Mitropoulos: Right now I'm in a "seaching for new sounds and styles" in instrumental metal scene. I'm also trying to add some nice woman voices and sound my music like a "metal opera". I got great influences from bands like Nightwish, The Gathering.

AoP: how would you describe the Animus Corpus sound?

SM: It's the sound that I always wanted to hear from a band. Pure metal energy without words, many melodies and great riffs, simple solos and killer sound distortion.

AoP: How did the band begin?

SM: It began in 1996 on  aband called "No Control" where I started to write some nice instrumental songs. After the band ended, I just continued to write songs. My computer was a great help since I made all the mixes by myself. The result is in my first E.P. called Animus Corpus.

AoP: Have you been involved in any other projects?

SM: I'm trying to focus only to my music right now and I got no free time to invoke with projects.

AoP: What are your favourite Animus Corpus tracks?

SM: My favorite track is Byzantine Emperor. It got this "Greek" influence and I love it.

AoP: What are your favourite all time songs?

SM: First of all is "Dantes Inferno" by Iced Earth.
Next one is "She is my Sin" by Nightwish and third comes the "Nightime Bird" by The Gathering.

AoP: What was the first record you bought?

SM: Oh dear.. Well, it was "Beneath the Remains" by Sepultura. I still love this album and I put it on the record quite often.

AoP: What do you think of the position of metal and music in general today?

SM: Metal looks like it's in high a place. People doesn't seem to care if this is Doom/Death or Alternative or Progressive etc. It's pure power, always was and always be.

AoP: Do you have any funny stories you can share with us?

SM: To make a "one man band", to play so many different instruments, to write all the line ups by yourself... well, it's a kind of funny afteral :-)

AoP: And finally, what do you see in the future for Sakis Mitropoulos?

SM: To be realistic, I don't think that this "project" it's gonna last for long as long as it remains a "one man band". If destiny helps, more musicians will add and finally to be a complete band so live actions can be performed and more albums to come. Only time will tell.
