Albums of Purgatory: Hows it going? What's the band up to?

Billy Harris: Just playing out a bunch and practicing for an upcoming recording session and playing some inspiring local shows.

AoP: You guys have done a lot of recording .  Hard work?

BH: Most bands recording is gruelling for our past two demos we put absouloutely no effort into them and that really ended up fucking us over. We

AoP: Have any of you played for bands before the formation of Fork Knife Spoon?

BH: Nate was in the socialites, and jake had been in some blues bands with older men. But thats about it.

AoP: Where did the name come from?

BH: Well fork knife spoon is the table setting of the sedentary status quo. Our name pretty much means be different then the norm, be yourself.

AoP: How would you describe your sound?

BH: Hardcore, with a good mixutre of thrash, punk, and metal.

AoP: Who are your influences?

BH: Thats a real tough question, We are really influence by the old school punk hardcore of the 80s like minor threat, the descendents, 7 seconds, black flag, dri etc.. we are really influenced by a lot of metal like iron maiden and stuff. A lot of late nineties punk and hardcore that came out of the midwest including Trepan Nation, Los Crudos, Kungfu rick and Charles bronson. We are influenced by local bands a ton including Only Ten Between Us and Senile Citizens. I bet if you ask me this question some other time ill give you a totally different answer, Just we listen to a lot of different stuff and you can pretty much tell what we listen to by listening to our music lyrically and musically.

AoP: Where have you enjoyed performing the most so far?

BH: Local shows are always fun we havent had the chance to play out as much as we want but defientaly our local shows are the funnest that we have played.

AoP: What is your favourite FKS song?

BH: Probably our newer one called Cuffs and collars, which is about skateboarding being shunned upon as a positive activity and how every skateboarder should work to get beyond this, and show that skateboarding is a positive activity and not a criminal one.

AoP: What is your favourite all time song?

BH: Damn, tough question all the trepan nation songs pretty much have a tie with me. I dont know about the rest of the guys

AoP: What would be your dream band line-up?

BH: Jello biafra hitting the mic, wesley willis on the keyboard, yngvie malmsteen on guitar, tommy lee on drums, and the bass player of lightning bolt.

AoP: Do you have any funny stories you can share with us?

BH: Once we were driving home from a show in the meth capitol of iowa(muscatine) and we saw a tornado(thats funny), um we once were playing a show in moline, and it got done early so we decided to walk down to the hockey game at the stadium that was getting over with at the time. We got kind of rowdy and were getting the fans to honk at us, chasing cars for high fives, and of course all of this was done topless. Well a cop rolls on by sees us teenagers acting up and decides that we have to be drunk. THe cop swears that she can smell it on us and after giving us all breathalizers while we were laughing in her face, she found out that we were not drunk we are dumb without alcohol. TRUE STORY

AoP: Finally, what do you see in the future for Fork Knife Spoon?

BH: I see us recording at the end of the month for our next two 7"s one a self titled ep on born to die records, the other a split 7" with hewhocorrupts which is a split release between disquietude and dehumanized records. And i see us recording at the end of the summer for our first full length on Bleeding Skies records. Thanks a ton for the interview dude.
