Albums of Purgatory interview Burial Ground

Firstly, whats the band up to right now?

A: Right now we are gearing up for some bigger shows ,
and hopefully getting some sponsorship with a couple
of noteable companies, i don't want to say who(might
jinx it).

2. Q:How would you describe the Burial Ground sound?

A: It's best described as Indigenous Tribal Groove
Metal. Very intense stuff, but not death metal. We are
really into our native roots , and it shows in our
music , but don't get the wrong idea, it's quite
brutal!

3. Q:How did you get involved with the band?

A: Actually, me and my partner in crime Corey Fuentes
started the band back in 1991. We were sick of the
crap music that was hot back then which was grunge, so
we worked on a new formula of music and we came up
with very heavy music with alot of groove in it just
to be different and go against the grains of popular
mainstream music. We came up with the tribal sound
that way. It was very natural for us since we are
native american. It's in our blood, i can't explain it
any other way.

4. Q:Can you remember your first gig (how did it go)?

A:Our very first show was huge man! it was at an old
theater in Modesto, ca , and the head count was
slightly over 1000 people in attendance. We were
nervous before we got to the show, but that quickly
dissipated after people started coming up to us and
giving us praises because they remembered me and corey
from our past band Split Image. That was all it took
to help us break through the nerves.

5. Q:Are you involved in any other projects and if so
how do they compare to Burial Ground?

A: Actually, i'm also in a legendary grind/death band
called MEAT SHITS, although it's on an extended hiatus
at the moment. there's nothing to compare the two
together. One is played with alot of heart and soul,
the other is played with great anger and hate.

6. Q:What are your favourite Burial Ground tracks?

A:Well, thats a tough question since i take great
pride in all songs that i write. That would be like
choosing a favorite child, although i do enjoy playing
some more than others. ok, i'm gonna say TWIN CROSSES
because it's a totally brutal grinding song with
interesting bridges and amazing drums.

7. Q:What are your favourite all time songs?

A:Black Sabbath(Black Sabbath) Dead Embryonic Cells
(Sepultura)

8. Q:What the first record you ever bought?

A:I bought two albums, one was Nazareth(hair of the
dog) and Black Sabbath (black sabbath)

9.Q:Which album was it that got you into metal and can
you explain why?

A: it was Black Sabbath actually, because they were so
intense and dark. I'd never heard anything like them
before that time. I was into kiss, because they looked
mean, but after experiencing sabbath, i realized that
kiss' music sucked ass!!

10.Q:Whats the last album you purchased and what did
you think of it?

A: it was disturbed (Prayer). It was too mello for me,
but i really dig the guitarist in the band, he can
create hella cool riffs!!

11.Q:What would be your dream band line-up?
A:Right now i would have to say all the members of
BURIAL GROUND, because i've never been happier with a
studio recording in my whole musical career. I'm not
into fantasy , so i won't say i'd absolutely love to
jam with MAX CAVALERA.

12.Q:If you could do a cover for a tribute album to
any band, which song of which band would you pick and
why?

A: "Just one fix" By MINISTRY. That song is so fucking
intense!! I have a very heavy way of playing that
particular song, and one day i'd love to be able to
record it.

13.Q:What do you think of the position of metal and
music in general today?

A: I think metal is having a huge resurgence right
now, and i'm happy to see it! Fans: Keep coming to
Metal Shows!! As for music in general, i really hate
alot of the stuff record labels and mtv are shoving
down our throats. It's all bullshit Pop crap!!
rehashed from bands before them. I know it's hard to
be original anymore, but if you listen to all these
new pop bands, you will hear riffs that you have heard
a thousand times before. They don't even try to be
original and thats what i hate. Unoriginal Bastards!

14.Q:Which other bands stand out for you at the
moment?

A: Locally or big? As far as locals go,i would have to
say a band in our area called SICKLE. They rock hella
hard! As for signed bands i would have to say SOULFLY,
MACHINEHEAD,GRAVE,OBITUARY,KATAKLYSM.

15.Q:Do you have any funny stories about the band you
can share with us?

A: There are so many throughout the years. Farting
Contests in which the whole band was involved, we
pissed off the people who owned the house where we
were staying at in the San Francisco bay area. I don't
blame them though, we were all hella drunk, because it
was this huge house party , and there were like 4
other bands that night. They dubbed our "then" singer
as Count Flatula!!

16.Q:And finally, what do you see in the future for
Burial Ground?

A: Total World Domination! We all believe that the
world is ready for True Native American Tribal Groove
Metal!! LET THE BURIAL BEGIN!!
