Albums of Purgatory interview Cursed

Firstly, whats the band up to right now?
We're up to a case of beer & a bottle of Cuervo a day, but on a serious note, we're hoping to go into the studio shortly to get our demo out.

How would you describe the Cursed sound?
gore-obsessed stalker metal

How did you get involved with the band?
The band was originally formed out of ex-members of California's Infestation & a meber of California's Fetus by the Pound.........but over the last year we've added two other members of FbtP to replace outgoing mebers.....so we've got Roy Stanley (bass) & Eric Tedder (guitar) from Infestation with Stefan Korienek (drums), Ivan Mungia (guitar), and Marcus Blankenship (vocals) from FbtP in our current fold.

Can you remember your first gig (how did it go)?
We played a 20 minute set, had a large porn picture as our backdrop, got stiffed by the promoter, and our lead guitarist lost his effects pedal, but other than that it was cool.

Are you involved in any other projects and if so how do they compare to Cursed?
Ivan is involved in a band called Disharmony which is has a more black metal influenced sound.

What are your favourite Cursed tracks?
Unholy Cunt is a fan favorite for obvious reasons. Its our homage to all the little whores out there.

What are your favourite all time songs?
Marcus : "Fucked with a Knife" by Cannibal Corpse
Eric : "Piece by Piece" by Slayer
Stefan: "Left Hand Path" by Entombed
Roy: "Execute them All" by Unleashed
Ivan was busy delivering pizzas at the time of this interview

What the first record you ever bought?
Marcus: "Wolverine Blues" by Entombed
Eric: "Iron Maiden" by Iron Maiden
Stefan: "So Far, So Good.....So What" by Megadeth
Roy: "Defenders of the Faith" by Judas Priest
Ivan: "Ride the Lightning" by Metallica

Which album was it that got you into metal and can you explain why?
For Marcus, it was Deicide's "Legion" that made him want to do metal.....for Eric it was Bolt Thrower "IVth Crusade"........for Stefan Incantation's "Onward to Golgatha"............for Ivan, it was early Metallica.........and for Roy, it was early Kreator & Destruction that made him want to play heavy shit.

Whats the last album you purchased and what did you think of it?
Marcus: Cannibal Corpse's "Gore Obsessed which he thinks was "masterful"
Stefan: Amon Amarth "Vs. the World" and according to him, it was "'Marth-tastic"
Eric: the Metallica Black album which he now uses as a coaster for beer cans
Roy: Sinister's "Creative Killings" and Rachel is god

as you can tell, we're all cheap bastards that don't buy too many recent CD's.

What would be your dream band line-up?
Cliff Burton on bass, Dave Lombardo on drums, Chris Barnes on vocals, Trey Azagthoth & Chuck Schuldiner on guitars

If you could do a cover for a tribute album to any band, which song of which band would you pick and why?
Anything off of Entombed's "Clandestine" album........there isn't a shitty song on that album

What do you think of the position of metal and music in general today?
Anything that gets routine airplay on MTV is shit.......none of them are any good...........some have musical potential, but get a fag singer who ruins it (ie. Limp Bizkit, Staind, etc )........we're tired of a bunch of 20 year olds whining about how their daddy touched them in the bad place (er........did someone say KoRn). If another band wants me to jump or wear my baseball cap sideways, i'm gonna castrate them.

Which other bands stand out for you at the moment?
Cannibal Corpse of course..........At the Ga...er, I mean The Haunted.........Cradle of Filth..........Dimmu Borgir

Do you have any funny stories about the band you can share with us?
We passed out beer to an underage crowd in California to keep them from leaving before we started our set because the promoter had us going on at one in the morning........needless to say, metalheads will stick around for free beer

and finally, what do you see in the future for Cursed?
We're hoping to drink a state dry..we'll start small with Rhode Island, and work our way up to Texas.
