Albums of Purgatory interview Overkill's Dave Linsk

Albums of Purgatory: Firstly, what are you up to right now?

Dave Linsk: right now i am in the studio writing more Speed Kill Hate tunes my thrash band

AoP: How would you describe the Speed Kill Hate sound?

DL: i would decribe the sound as very aggressive old school  thrash metal always on 10 ,never letting up

AoP: How would you describe the Overkill sound?

DL: the overkill sound is heavy as well but not quite as fast and going for the throat as speed kill hate these days

AoP: How did you get involved with Overkill?

DL: i got involved when auditioned for them 1998 ...been involved ever since

AoP: How did SKH come about?

DL: skh came about like this........i was writing songs with intentions of overkill,i did some demos with tim...after the songs were done ,they were not the direction overkill was going . speed kill hate was born ......i recorded 10 songs at that time...all thrash ..all aggressive.....since then i have written a bunch more and i am currently recording

AoP: Are you involved in any other projects and if so how do they compare musically to Overkill and SKH?

DL: i am involved with a few other projects when they are complete i will announce them

AoP: Can you remember your first gig (how did it go)?

DL: the 1st gig i ever played ? or with overkill........i do remember both....my 1st gig ever was classic.........i smashed a guitar over some guys head (matt) he had on a football helmet we thought that would be cool...........it was.........with overkill  it was in rhode island ,....good show, well recieved.......thanks RI

AoP: What sort of reaction are you getting from the new live Overkill album and DVD so far?

DL: as far as reaction to the live record and dvd........so far i have only heard positive things.........what about you ?

AoP: Can we expect a new studio album this year?

DL: yes the new studio album is done......killbox 13   releases the end of march

AoP: What are your favourite Overkill tracks?

DL: my favorite kill tracks are nice day for a funeral or maybe under one or infectious,(merrit /rob years) long time dying or it lives  (joe/seb years) nothing to die for or maybe hammerhead the (gustafson years) and death comes out to play or thunderhead on bloodletting

AoP: What are your favourite SKH tracks?

DL: as for the skh tracks i like them all so far but  i`ll  have to let you know as the finish them up

AoP: What are your favourite all time songs or albums?

DL: favorite all time songs are tough because i like a lot of them.......however 90% of them are older....as far as records i would say one of my favorites was diary of a madman rhoads was amazing.......the chord work on that record alone is still amazing ,a real turning point for my own guitar playing  .....yngwie rising force 1st record amazing.......i have a lot records that i really like, but again 90% are old ones

AoP: If you could choose to feature on a tribute album for a band who would you choose and which song would you play?

DL: i would chose vinnie paul/drums    mars cowling /bass  ozzy/vocals  and do queens death on 2 legs.........that would be sick

AoP: What was the first record you bought?

DL: the 1st record i bought was kiss alive

AoP: What would be your dream band line-up?

DL: as far as dream bands...it would depend on the music style.......as for now i think my thrash band is kicking

AoP: What do you think of the position of metal and music in general today?

DL: i think at this point everything gets trendy...i wish people would just go back to playing what feels good to themselves and fuck what they think they are supposed to do........the way i see it ..if it makes you feel good and someone else likes it thats great, hell that`s magic.............but if you conform to please someone else and no one likes it ..you beat yourself...you lose.......if you did what you wanted in the 1st place, you yourself will at least always like it

AoP: Which other bands in the scene really stand out for you at the moment?

DL: i think as far as stand out bands...... the last testament record(the gathering)is a great record

AoP: Do you have any funny stories about either bands you can share with us?

DL: 18as far as stories i have a bunch........i just type like shit so it would take forever to write one.......next time we`ll use a phone

AoP: and finally, what do you see in the future for Dave Linsk?

DL: as for the future...i see a instrumental record and a speed kill hate tour......but 1st we will shop that deal
