Albums of Purgatory interview Demure's Mass Black

Albums of Purgatory: Firstly, what's the band up to right now?

Mass Black: We are working on setting up the TOUR planned for this Winter. As well we just recently finished our home studio, so work on our first album recordings will begin soon.

AoP: How would you describe the Demure sound?

MB: We are very Black/Death Metal with our sound though all kinds of Punk, Crust, Hardcore & Grind influences us. There are heavy riffs beside softer melodies along with the usual thrash one needs to get through the day.

AoP: How did you get involved with the band?

MB: Back in '97 I was in a CrustPunk band called Populace. Our guitar player moved to Texas and he called me a few years later to start another band with him. So I moved to Texas and the rest is history.

AoP: Can you remember your first gig (how did it go)?

MB: Yeah, it was pretty funny. It was at a bar for a capacity crowd of nine. Only one guy was banging his head. Everyone else was waiting to see some RapRock shit.

AoP: What sort of reaction have you been getting from fans and press since the demo was released last year?

MB: Not a lot from the "press" but many fans have graced us with their thoughts and we've welcomed all who praise us or talk shit.

AoP: What are your favourite Demure tracks?

MB: Mine are "Father Hubbard" and "Wholly Shit" from the demo though there are new songs no fans have heard that kick some major ass as well.

AoP: What are your favourite all time songs?

MB: Supernaut -Black Sabbath, L.A. Woman - The Doors, No Quarter - Led Zeppelin &  Fortunate Son - CCR

AoP: What was the first record you bought?

MB: I think it was Dead Kennedy's Bedtime For Democracy

AoP: What would be your dream band line-up?

MB: Uh, I don't know. I rarely dream of band line-ups. Let me sleep on this one, I'll get back to you.

AoP: What do you think of the position of metal and music in general today?

MB: I'd say it's in a real missionary position. Meaning that if it doesn't switch soon, no one's gonna orgasm. No really, I don't think music or Metal are any different today then times passed. The only real meaning music has is a personal thing to whomever enjoys it, regardless of what others may think.

AoP: Which other bands in the scene really stand out for you at the moment?

MB: In the scene here any and ALL extreme bands RULE! Daimonion, XphyXia, EchoDrain just to name a few. Any of the bands we have links for from our website.

AoP: Do you have any funny stories about the band you can share with us?

MB: Well, we're a band. That's pretty funny. We're a METAL band too, that's funny as shit!

AoP: And finally, what do you see in the future for Demure?

MB: Well, I can't really foretell the future or anything, but I'd say we're gonna be world famous for kicking such major ass!
