 Albums of Purgatory: Firstly, what's the band up to?

Flex der Biergsame: We`re doing fine in berlin. The sun is shining and we enjoy the springtime.

AoP: How did the band begin in the mid-90's?

FdB: It all startet 1994 . Last unicorn, Dr. Pi and me where travelling from one middleage market to the next, to play old music. Actually, these where our first gigs.

AoP: How would you describe the In Extremo sound? Who are your influences?

FdB: The songs we played where original middleage melodies with bagpipes and drums (Dawuhl ; big drum in front of the players body.) So the music is very loud and powerfull, but also with a touch of mystic.1996 in Extremo was completed. The seven Vagants started the rock shows with friends of the band. we play the same notes and we don`t change the sense of the original text; The way we play the song is our interpretation of it; not to forget about guitar and bass,they give the groove.

AoP: the band has worked so hard over the last five years with touring and recording.  Has it all been worth it?  Was there any point where you doubted that?

FdB: In the beginning it was hard. Everybody of us had a job to do and on the week-end we where driving with a small and old bus from town to town. One of us always had to drive.  We all love our bus driver; special greetings to him :-) To my opinion , it was all worth it. Naturally we also had our ups and downs.

AoP: Can you remember your first gig (how did it go)?

FdB: Well, I can`t remember exactly the first concert.

AoP: What are your favourite memories from touring and playing live?

FdB: 13 guys and sometimes 1 women in a bus can be very funny , but -sorry- we don`t talk about. We get to know many people and citys

AoP: What are your favourite in Extremo tracks?

FdB: My favorite songs are the ballads ( die Gier, rotes haar etc. ), but I like to play all our music.

AoP: What do you think of the position of music today?

FdB: I think the position of music today is very high ( listen in the summer to the beats in the cars ). New styles of music are created all the time, very different to our music, but everyone has their fans.


AoP: Do you have any stories about the band you can share with us?

FdB: In november 2000 we played in L.A. in a club( I don`t remember the name ) ( the doors started there ). What was strange to me was a big sign "last song" that was lighting when the concert had to end. I never saw this before.


AoP: and finally what do you see in the future for in Extremo?

FdB: As long as we have fun paying our music and travelling around the band spirit will grow. This brings much creativity for new songs. So you will hear in Extremo in the future.
