Albums of Purgatory interview Illdisposed

Firstly, whats the band up to right now?
We are looking for a new record label right now since we got tired of Diehard Music. We didn’t like the fact that our sales figures stood still, we want to move forward. We will hopefully release our 8th album this autumn and we go on a European tour this September.

How would you describe the Illdisposed sound?
Major League Metal.

How did you get involved with the band?
I was touring with Illdisposed in another band called Infernal Torment back in 1997. We partied a lot together on that tour, drank a lot of booze and did a lot of drugs.
When Ronni Bak left Illdisposed in 1998 or 1999 the guys called me and asked if I wanted to play the bass guitar in the band. I said yes, and when Tore left the band later on I took over the lead guitar instead. I have always been guitar player, playing bass sucks.

Can you remember your first gig (how did it go)?
Yeah, it started out like shit. We were all drunk and I forgot to power on my amplifier. I didn’t notice until the 3rd song. Fortunately it was a rather small concert, only 3-400 people.

Are you involved in any other projects and if so how do they compare to Illdisposed?
Not at this moment. But Bo (vocalist) do the vocals for Panzerchrist. They will also release a new album this year.

What are your favourite Illdisposed tracks?
I think most of our songs are good, that’s our advantage. Lots of bands sound okay when you hear them for the first time, but after 10 minutes they suck because their riffs are good, but their songs aren’t. But I like “We lie in the snow”, “Psychic Cyclus” and “Submit” to mention a few.

What are your favourite all time songs?
Slayer: “Raining Blood”, Sanctuary: “Future Tense”, Yngwie Malmsteen: “I am a Viking”, Forbidden: “Through eyes of glass”

What the first record you ever bought?
Hmmm… I think it was Slayer: “Show no mercy”. I still listen to that record a lot, a true masterpiece.

Which album was it that got you into metal and can you explain why?
I started out with 3 favourites: Slayer: “Show no mercy”, Iron Maiden: “Number of the beast” and King Diamond: “Fatal Portrait”. They just gave me that strange feeling no other music genre could give me. It’s sort of like when you fuck a girl for the first time. You want to do it again though she was fat and ugly.

Whats the last album you purchased and what did you think of it?

That must be Nevermore: “Dead heart in a dead world”, a classic already. I love mr. Danes vocals, I’ve liked it since the Sanctuary albums. Great production and most of all great songs.

What would be your dream band line-up?
Don’t really know. But I know I’m included.
If you could do a cover for a tribute album to any band, which song of which band would you pick and why?
Definitely some manowar, probably “Metal Daze”. That song really tells you the truth about life.

What do you think of the position of metal and music in general today?
The heavy metal scene here in Denmark sucks. We don’t really want to do the long tours in Denmark any more, only 3-4 shows per year. But we like Germany very much, it’s totally different down there.

Which other bands stand out for you at the moment?
Mostly the old shit from the 80’s. I don’t like very much of the new stuff, especially not the “new metal” or what they call it. It’s just a good excuse to fuck up the good values in heavy metal.

Do you have any funny stories about the band you can share with us?
I have lots of funny stories, something funny happens every time we play because we always get so drunk and fucked up. Once we ordered some strippers, and after they did their show I fucked one of them in a very little car. We got it all on video. Another time Lasse played a gig with a yellow dress on. In the middle of the show he fell - and everybody could see that he wasn’t wearing any underpants underneath his dress.
Stuff like this happens all the time, I could go on and on…

and finally, what do you see in the future for Illdisposed?
I see a couple of new albums, a couple of crazy tours and a lot of drinking.

Thanks again for the interview and good luck for the future.
Good luck to you too.
