Albums of Purgatory interview Insatanity
Firstly, whats the band up to right now?
Right now we are currently writing new material for upcoming album. We are going in the studio in August to start recording. We plan to release a 4 song EP during that time with two new tunes and two old ones just to promote the album.
How would you describe the Insatanity sound?
That's kinda hard. I don't think we really sound like anyone. We mix both death and black metal styles. We enjoyed both forms, but don't want to just go one certain way.
How did you get involved with the band?
I joined the band in 1994, I was playing bass then. Due to personal conflicts with another member, I was out the the band by 1996. although I wasn't playing I was still helping out with everything the band. I played in a band called Divination, out of Reading, PA, at that time. I returned to Insatanity in 2000 to take over the vocals duties from Mark when he decieced that it was time to move on.
Can you remember your first gig (how did it go)?
Yes, I can remember it. It was a good show. It was at a club called G. Willikers.
Are you involved in any other projects and if so how do they compare to Insatanity?
I am involved with Pyrexia out of NY. There is no comparing the two, they are
both really great groups. I enjoy being on both.
I am also involved with a few other bands that are different to Pyrexia and
Insatanity. Netwar and Ash2Flesh are total grind core.
What are your favourite Insatanity tracks?
Within The Walls Of Arkham, Unjaded, and all the new tunes we are writing.
What are your favourite all time songs?
Among the Living from Anthrax, Through the Eyes of Terror form BoltThrower,
Cosmic Keys to my Creation & times form Emperor
they're so many i can't List them all
What the first record you ever bought?
Among the Living from Anthrax
Which album was it that got you into metal and can you explain why?
when I was 15, I didn't really listen to music much until a friend of mine
asked me to going an Anthrax concert.
so I really didn't know much about metal or any other genre at that time. I
immediately like them. I thought they were aggressive and heavy , so
after the show I went out and got the CD "Among the Living ". Ever
since then I've kept seeking more aggressive forms of music.
Whats the last album you purchased and what did you think of it?
Thats hard one, I haven't bought a CD in years. i just copies from friends
now. I think it was Deicide "Legion".
That is a great album.
What would be your dream band line-up?
That's easy, if you are referring to Insatanity. We finally have the line-up this bands needs. I'm not saying anything about anyone who was in the band before, but we have some of the best musicians in the genre. Pick by Mark Rhochar and Myself. In general, I would say; Karl Willetts - Vocals, Chuck Schuldiner- Guitar, Terrance Hobbs - Guitar, Les Claypool - Bass, Trym Torson - Drums
If you could do a cover for a tribute album to any band, which song of which
band would you pick and why?
We would do a song from Death something of Spiritual Healing. Chuck was a great
guy. I feel that he was very influential on the genre.
It was a shame to lose such a good person. For us to do one one of his songs
i s our way of saying thanks.
What do you think of the position of metal and music in general today?
I think it still doing good, it does get over shadowed. especially in the US. I still see good turn out at the shows.
Which other bands stand out for you at the moment?
Abuse from Canada, Polterchrist from New Jersey, True Unholy Death from Maryland
Do you have any funny stories about the band you can share with us?
At one time, my cousin was playing bass for us and he told us a story about his last girlfriend. He said that he had this jack-hammer dildo and that she loved when he drove it in her ass. she would lie down with her ass in the air so he could stand behind her drill her like he was working on the street.
and finally, what do you see in the future for Insatanity?
We will continue to put out albums and tour. Eventually we will may it over to Europe.
Thanks again for the interview and good luck for the future.
Thank you for your time, Stay Brutal.
