Albums of Purgatory interview Isolate
Firstly, whats the band up to right now?
isolate is busy putting out their debut album "36 degrees of deception" completely recorde, mastered, and produced by the members of the band, with use of axis studios in a local town. with support of this debut effort, they plan to tour around california, and onto texas and most of the western coast of the united states. who knows perhaps a european tour is in line after that
How would you describe the Isolate sound?
isolate is a culmination of every member of the bands unique musical tastes, from pink floyd, to black sabbath, to godsmack, to coal chamber, to white zombie, to ministry, to skinny puppy, it's just all those things roleld into one, with our own style on it.
How did you get involved with the band? i was a lead singer of another band,
that was on it's way out, and they came up to me after a show and asked me to
join, at first i was apprehensive, and didnt quite have faith in the sound,
but it grew on me like a fungus and here i am.
Can you remember your first gig (how did it go)? yes, it was less than a year
ago, about seven months, and i had a 103 degree fever, it was summer, mid-day
heat beating down, and i was pounding down nyquil like water, trying to break
the fever before i got up there to sing
the show went well, fans had never heard us before, and they were completely blwon away, me being sick didnt faze them a bit
Are you involved in any other projects and if so how do they compare to Isolate?
no, this band is my life
What are your favourite Isolate tracks?
all of them, they all sound good to me
What are your favourite all time songs?
"one of these days" by pink floyd, "blood milk and sky"
by white zombie, "jesus built my hotrod" by ministry, there are just
so many to name
What the first record you ever bought?
whew, it was a cheesy rap album from the 80's, it was horrible, but i was young, and i loved the beat it had on there
Which album was it that got you into metal and can you explain why? i would
have to say it was "la sexircisto" by white zombie, it just had things
involved that i blew me away, the leads and the riffs, the use of b-horror movie
samples all throughout the album, it was a wake up call to me, from then on
i couldn't get enough metal, i took it all in and learned and grew with it as
it changed and formed itself into so many different hybrids, but the true pioneers
still stay the same
iron maiden, cannibal corpse, slayer, old mettalica, deth, motorhead, sepultura
those guys are what metal was about
Whats the last album you purchased and what did you think of it? static-x "machine,
i thought it was good, simplified, but of course static-x aint the hardest music
to learn, but wayne static just knows how to write a good metal hook, and get
his music across without waving his guitar pecker around, if you know what i
mean
What would be your dream band line-up?
wow, i like so many different artists, it would be crazy, umm ok. i would have
three rythem guitar players, stevey ray vaughn, james hetfield, and the guy
from fear factory, together those guys would come up with the sickest rythem
lines to date. on drumms, it would joey form slipknot, and john bonham from
led zepplin, and maybe the guy from tool playing percussion bongoes and tom
drums. we would of course have to have a sampler guy, so al jerganson form ministry
would do that and back up vocals, on lead guitars it would have to be dimebag
darrell, and zack wylde, the leads they pull off, insane.
bass guitar, hands down less claypool, no other guy would really fit the insane carnage that would go onstage. then i would have two vocalists, max from soulfly and sepultura, laying down the fuckin metal metal groove, lajon from sevendust, dropping down the smooth vocals, and me doin my thing, which is a miixture of both, now to mess it all up i would have tori amos playing piano and keyboards, hahahaha
If you could do a cover for a tribute album to any band, which song of which band would you pick and why? well i would have done the white zombie tribute album, the black sabbath tribute, and the mettalica tribute, but they were all allready taken
so if they do a ministry tribute, then i am rarin to go, i would choose "t.v. 2"
What do you think of the position of metal and music in general today? well,
i think that the radio, and television saturate the music scene with things
they call metal, or music, when reality it is no where close to the truth, the
problem is, that kids these days are not exposed to enough true metal music,
or music seperate from the sissy boy crap you hear, so they are brainwashed
into believing that this stuff is called metal, there are few metal bands out
there on the radio, i have counted five, the truth is, the rest are alternative,
or light rock. what we need is another pioneer to bring true metal music back
into the lime light
Which other bands stand out for you at the moment? alot of the local scene stands
out, i like mudvayne and the step they are going, as well as slipknot, coal
chamber is always good in my eyes, just anything thats true to themselves and
not sticking to some format
Do you have any funny stories about the band you can share with us? i have sooo
many stories, but lets just say that not all of them are rated "pg-13".
in the course of the last seven months, my band has experianced so many things
and seen so many things, we will just say that our fans and "band aids"
are the most disgusting perverted and vile creatures we know, and we love them
to death for it
and finally, what do you see in the future for Isolate? world domination, no
just kidding, all we want is to be heard, our message to be heard and understood,
for people to understand that we are not some rock stars waiting for our limo,
we are six guys looking to change the way people think about our type of music,
Thanks again for the interview and good luck for the future.
thank you so much, it was quite a pleasure, and we hope to come to the U.K. very soon to play alot of shows for our fans out there, till then check out the site
