Albums of Purgatory: Firstly, what's the band up to?

Jukka Juntunen: We're going to enter Tico-tico studios in July to record our second album titled " Lovecraftian Dark".

AoP: how would you describe the Dawn of Relic sound?

JJ: Even though our music has changed and developed quite a bit from our debut, I would like to put it like our former label described us : " Alternating between calm acoustic passages and frenetic blast sections, the band prefer to retain an air of mystery and anonymity about them which serves their unusual style of dark metal well. "

AoP: How did the band begin in 93?

JJ: Too much feelings to be kept inside. I was looking for a way to purge my ideas and aggressions and I found music. First DOR was my soloproject but after I found out that I couldn't concentrate on many instruments at the same time I started to gather other members.

AoP: Can you remember your first gig (how did it go)?

JJ: Heh, It was held in the local youth center... quite fucking satanic. Nevertheless it went pretty well !

AoP: Which bands have you enjoyed gigging with the most?

JJ: We haven't been on many gigs (with other bands I mean) but in time before our first album there was this band called "Black Swan". We made few gigs with them and it was great. Unfortunately the band split up few years ago.

AoP: How has the bands sound progressed since?

JJ: Nowadays we have much more versatile music (Lovecraftian dark is going to be a fucking surprise to the critics) than before. The sound is still aggressive and melodic but the structure of the songs is much more
opulent.

AoP: Who are your musical influences?

JJ: There are SOOOO many of them.. From Sibelius to Deicide :)

AoP: What are your favourite Dawn of Relic tracks?

JJ: Old ones: Just a river, When Aldebaran is visible (old demoversion) and one track which was called "minas Ithil" but was never published. New ones: ALL heh. hard to say which track is the best 'cause I write 95% of our music.
I can't be very objective.

AoP: What are your favourite all time songs?

JJ: Deicide "Sacrificial Suicide" & Cynic "Uroboric Forms" + MANY more

AoP: What was the first record you bought?

JJ: Mötley crue "Theatre of pain" & "Shout at the devil"

AoP: What would be your dream band line-up?

JJ: I have it already ! (but of course if get Britney Spears & Christina Aquilera to ram dildos up to their christian asses during our show, I would be quite pleased).

AoP: Are there any bands that stand out more than others for you at the moment?

JJ: I have watched the rise of Slipknot and it's quite impressive what they have done. They are a perfect example how you can make your dream come true if you just believe in it.

AoP: What do you think of the position of metal and music in general today?

JJ: Metal is a rising force and that's good. It has that primitive feeling that everyday people lack. One shitty thing is that when more and more people start to listen to it, it goes commercial and thats bad. Nevertheless I hate piracy, artist is the one who suffers the most from it.

AoP: Do you have any funny or unusual stories you can share with us about the band?

JJ: Well this might not be band related but who cares: We were on the gig in Rovaniemi and it was my birthday. Bandmembers bought me a "dick-glasses" (you know, the one that has cock at the place of your nose) which glowed in
the dark. well I put the glasses to my backpack (the same that carry with me when I go kickboxing) and forgot them. After few months I was training boxing with my other pals and they saw the cock in my backpack.... The frames were broken and all you could see was this huge dildo.  There was some explaining to do...

AoP: and finally, what do you see in the future for Dawn of Relic?

JJ: After the release of our forthcoming album, Gigs, booze & chicks + that holy fucking metalheadfeeling ! There's no DOR if there's no true feelings.
