Albums of Purgatory interview Last Rites' Megadave

Albums of Purgatory: Firstly, what's the band up to right now?

Davide: The line-up is stabilized: Dave (me) guitar and vocals, Jan lead guitar, Mauro drums and Rebba bass guitar.

AoP: How would you describe the Last Rites sound?

D: It’ isn’t easy to describe the Last Rites sound. When we started we played Power-Metal, after the split with the singer we moved to a Speed-Thrash-Metal...now we are also influenced by the Swedish sound of bands like Arch Enemy, Children of Bodom...we can say that we play Speed-Melodic-Thrash Metal...a sort of an Italian-Swedish-Metal! =:))

AoP: How did you get involved with the band?

D: I am with Jan the founder of the band. Firstly I played only the guitar then, after the split with the vocalist, I became also the singer.

AoP: Can you remember your first gig (how did it go)?

D: Yes! We played the first time at the Italo Calvino in a small town near our city. We were very excited and we made a good show. I can’t forget it!

AoP: the band has gone through a lot of line-up changes.  How difficult has that been?

D: It’s very difficult to find good musicians with a great passion and love for the music.

AoP: What are your favourite Last Rites tracks?

D: I think that Pshycho Killer is the best song we have made.

AoP: What are your favourite all time songs or albums?

D: Megadeth: Rust in peace!

AoP: What was the first record you bought?

D: I think Extreme III: Pornograffiti...

AoP: What would be your dream band line-up?

D: The line-up of Rust in Peace: Mustaine, Ellefson, Menza and Friedman.

AoP: What do you think of the position of metal and music in general today?

D: Here, in Italy, Heavy Metal is living a good period thanks to bands like Rhapsody, Labyrinth, Vision Divine, Death SS...but to survive in the underground isn’t easy...in general...I think we are living a good period specially in the North of Europe...

AoP: Which other bands in the scene really stand out for you at the moment?

D: in general? Children of Bodom, Arch Enemy, Dimmu Borgir...in Italy a band that have made a killer album is Node...

AoP: Do you have any funny stories about the band you can share with us?

D: We can tell thousands stories about the band...=:))...I can tell you about a curiosity of the recording of Psycho Killer. Well, we were searching for an intro for the song and we thought to a chainsaw...Rebba brought and "played" a real chainsaw in the Studio!

AoP: and finally, what do you see in the future for Last Rites?

D: We are working at new songs...we will record a 8/9 traks cd for next year, with new songs and the old song re-registred.
