Albums of Purgatory: So what happened to Mangled Autopsy?

Logan Turner: We had been looking for a drummer that had enough dedication to at least show up for practice for a long time, and the singer got fed up with waiting so long. Funny thing is he left the same week I got in contact with an excellent drummer (Don Ouchs) who I jammed with for a long time after mangled autopsy’s demise. When the singer left the bassist also left and Don and I decided to start from scratch and not bother with mangled autopsy anymore since the music we were making was a lot thrashier than m.a.

AoP: Have you started any different projects?

LT: I’ve tried a lot of bands since then, none of them working out though. There seems to be a serious problem
with people having any dedication to music. I work endlessly on a one man band sideproject called “Nothing to Say” which is not very metal at all, its basically a project I can chill out with and lay down some tracks from my
alter-ego.

AoP: Which bands have you already been a part of?

LT: Innocence defiled, Suicide Project, and a few bands that we never named.

AoP: Can you remember the first gig you took part in (how did it go)?

LT: All the bands I take part of never make it long enough to play a show. Might be a curse?…

AoP: How did the band start in early 2001?

LT: A guitarist I had played in a few bands with had told me about innocence defiled when it needed another
guitarist, we both knew Tom so we got him to sing for the outfit. When that band fell apart me and Tom decided to keep going under a new name and with new shit.

AoP: How would you have described the mangled Autopsy sound?

LT: Fast riffs with occasional sloooow breakdown grooves

AoP: Who are your influences?

LT: ZAO, Pig Destroyer, Abuse, Dying Fetus, Circle of Dead Children, Pink Floyd, and Tool

AoP: What are your favourite all time songs?

LT: The Red Chord – Catalepsy, Darkest Hour – the 4th track off their first album, Luis Armstrong – what a
wonderful world, ZAO – the dreams that don’t come true, The Dillinger Escape plan – The running board, Abuse – Satan’s parade

AoP: What was the first record you bought?

LT: Pink Floyd - Animals

AoP: What would be your dream band line-up?

LT: The Red Chord, ZAO, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Pig Destroyer, Lamb of God

AoP: What do you think of the position of metal and music in general today?

LT: I think there’s a lot of good music out there if you’re willing to sift through the mess. Popular music runs in cycles so I never really get down about metal losing popularity or gaining it. It all evens out in the end. I’ve noticed crowds’ getting larger at underground shows now though. It might be due to the fact emo and black metal bands are getting more popular though, since most of those newbies leave after the opening bands(emo-core or black metal bands normally) get finished… haha. I really just don’t bother giving a shit about metal’s place in the popular status. As long as there’s new acts commin out that can rip I’m happy about the state of metal.

AoP: Which bands do you think stand out more than others for you at the moment?

LT: You should deffinatly check out “The Red Chord” which I just found out about a few months ago, they kick the nuts of ya and spread em over the walls… seriously heavy music – cool guys too. Pig Destroyer is also a band that slaughters, especially since they don’t even have a bassist. Abuse stands out as being one of the sickest bands around. And Virulence – They’re sick as hell and they throw jazz in the mix along side some great grooves.

AoP: Do you have any funny or wierd band stories you can share with us?

LT: When I was in project of suicide we practiced in a HUGE warehouse that we could use on the weekends when no one was there except us. The place was full of artillery, food, and cheap porn. That practice pad was the absolute best! haha

AoP: and finally what do you see in the future?

LT: Do you think you will always be involved in metal? There’s probably gonna be more bullshit bands headed my way like usual.. one or so might work out and actually go somewhere. I’ve tried to go other directions than metal… it doesn’t normally work out, It’s just my comfort zone. It all changes with each band I join.. so I’ll find
out when I get there I suppose.
