Albums of Purgatory: Firstly, what is the band up to?

Micke Andersson: Some months ago we released our new album called “the crowning carnage”. So our spare time is filled with promotion work like interviews right now. Soon we start work with material for the sixth album. Hopefully we are also available to perform live as well.

AoP: How would you describe the Thy Primordial sound?

MA: Thy Primordial perform Fast and aggressive black metal with a touch of death metal.

AoP: How did the band begin in 94?

MA: We started up after splitting up an old death metal band which all members were included in, so basically we just changed name and musical direction from what we started a year earlier.

AoP: Can you remember your first gig (how did it go)?

MA: The first gig we did was in November 94 a local gig together with various crappy rock and pop bands. I think about ten or twenty people showed up. It was a real disaster all members in the band were a bit too drunk to do a proper gig but we never cared since we knew that no people should show up.

AoP: What caused the three year delay of the album 'Under Iskall Trollmane’?  How relieved were you to get that sorted out?

MA: It was out of our hands. We delivered the album some time mid 95 and it was supposed to be released late 95 or early 96, but something happen. I just know the official story about the delay I bet it’s not true. Gothic mentioned thousands of different reasons, a new story every time we asked basically. Actually we were a bit pissed of when the album finally was released since it caused a bit problems for us to release the new album, which was “At the world of untrodden wonder” at that time. Back then we thought that “under iskall trollmane” was better unreleased as the direction of that album doesn´t matches anything we done later. But looking back on it now I think the album is cool. It has been re-issued several times since then.

AoP: What kind of response have you had from the new album 'Crowning Carnage'?

MA: Overall positive, the old fans seems happy about the direction of the album and the press has overall been pretty nice. Although there has been bad stuff as well, some think that it follows old patterns to mush. But it’s nothing I really care about after all.

AoP: What are your favourite Thy Primordial tracks?

MA: I don’t know if theses are the best songs we ever done but Worldecay, ex opere operatu, Svart gryning and the fatal journey are at least songs that are special to me.

AoP: What are your favourite all time songs and albums?

MA: I like pretty mush all kinds of metal for example
Dissection storms of the lights bane is probably the best black metal album around especially the song Crimson death.
Ulver “madrigal of the night” is also a really great album.
Dio holydiver is another great album as well as Ozzy Osborne ultimate sin.

AoP: What was the first record you bought?

MA: My first bought album was Kiss “Double platinum” 1978 or 1979 can’t remember for sure.

AoP: What would be your dream band line-up?

MA: What’s wrong with that one we have today? I think we have a line-up of dedicated people in the band that’s the most important for us.

AoP: What do you think of the position of metal and music in general today?

MA: Metal in general seems to have a pretty strong position on the whole music market today. The sad thing about the music market today is that mp3 and internet make the industry suffer, especially the artist.

AoP: Do you have any funny or unusual stories you can share with us about the band?

MA: One funny thing was For example when Morth got bold he did something  very clumsy as    he was supposed to do a practical joke on Isidor but it didn’t his way at all he ended up bleeding and had to travel to the doctor, before they could sew the wound they had to shave his head. The whole recording session of “the seasons” album was like a big party filled with burglary, anti Christian actions and other funny things but we keep the details for our self. They are a bit too personal for us.

AoP: and finally, what do you see in the future for Thy Primordial?

MA: I see the upcoming re-issues of Where only…, At the world… and The heresy… which shall be out during 2002.
We soon start with new material for the sixth album. We also hope to do some live performance later on.
