Firstly, whats the band up to right now?
We are about to enter studio to record our 4th recording Mabool - The storm
still rages...we hope to release it till the end of the year, right after we
plan to have a lot of shows.
How would you describe the Orphaned Land sound?
I would describe it as East Meet West, or as a Tango between God and Satan.
How did you get involved with the band?
I formed the band, it was in 1991.
Can you remember your first gig (how did it go)?
It was in 1992, we were kids, it was some Metal place called Jungle Rock, it
was a great show compared to a fist one, I will never forget it, the sound was
bad and we were very exited...
Are you involved in any other projects and if so how do they compare to Orphaned
Land?
Somtimes I sing as a guest in some projects but im not that involved in side
projects as most of my time today goes to Orphaned Land, I was a guest in a
gothic project called - Magal, I sang with a french Israeli female singer called
Nili, I was a guest with metal group Subterinian Masqurade when they made a
cover to Peter Murphy's song - Cuts You Up - I was a guest together with Thomas
Lindberg from At The Gates!! Im going to be a guest in an At The Gates cover
that will be realesed by an Israeli group called - Moonskin...and more to come
I guess.
What are your favourite Orphaned Land tracks?
Its like asking a Father which one of his kids he likes the most, cant answer
that, sorry :-)
What are your favourite all time songs?
I cant answer that Either, there are too many and it changes.
What the first record you ever bought?
I think it was Slayer - Reign in Blood or Metallica - Ride The Lightnning
Which album was it that got you into metal and can you explain why?
It was Iron Maiden - Seventh Son of The Seventh son, when I saw it it looks
so mystic and Intresting, when I heard it I felt somthing that no other music
made me feel and since then Im into it :-)
Whats the last album you purchased and what did you think of it?
Beth Gibons - I think its a great relaxing album, accoustic guitars, female
vocals ect.
What would be your dream band line-up?
Mike Patton - Vocals
Portnoy - Drums
Steve Harris - Bass
Joe Satriany - Guitars
If you could do a cover for a tribute album to any band, which song of which
band would you pick and why?
We have a future Idea to make a cover albums cause its great to do it I think,
If I had to choose one I guess it would be: Radiohead - Street Spirit, but in
a week I will think diffrent from now...it changes.
What do you think of the position of metal and music in general today?
I think it's great, it become a bit mainstream by Nu Metal but I guess its great.
Which other bands stand out for you at the moment?
mmm...
Do you have any funny stories about the band you can share with us?
Ok here one of many - we had a show in Turkey, we were so exited, 800 people
came especially to see us, we finish the show and the crowed call us to go back
on stage, we go up and our Guitarist Matti was so exited that he forgot his
guitar on Back Stage so he goes up on stage, make hello with his hand to the
crowed, then he was confused for 20 seconds, we all want to start and play and
he stands there like he is naked, while all the place wait for him he went back
to bring his guitar, the whole place was laghfing like crazies!
and finally, what do you see in the future for Orphaned Land?
I see a Tango Between God and Satan.
Thanks again for the interview and good luck for the future.
