Albums of Purgatory interview Santi

Firstly, whats the band up to right now?
Well, since we've recorded our cd we've been playing lots of shows, and trying to get our tour sorted out. we've alson been writing here and there, since we plan to record again at the end of summer.

How would you describe the Santi sound?
i would say that we're trying to do something new. hardcore is what i guess you would call us, but we have death metal influences on my part, and even some punk influences-which you wouldn't see in our music, but they're there.

How did you get involved with the band?
steve, denny and i were in a kinda slow boring metal band, and josh and riley were trying to get something going, and riley kinda started jamming with us. we didn't get josh until about a week before our first show.

Can you remember your first gig (how did it go)?
yeah, we played with a bunch of local bands at a church, and we played last. it was great, we sounded bad, but it was still fun.

Are you involved in any other projects and if so how do they compare to Santi?
nope, santi full time for all of us.

What are your favourite Santi tracks?
i'd say my favorite track is "today i kissed an angel"(the last song on our cd), and "rust collecting on a pipe in nebraska"(song two)

What are your favourite all time songs?
danzig-mother
shai hulud-set your body ablaze
skycamefalling-november's neverending
the dillinger escape plan-43% burnt

What the first record you ever bought?
it was probably something like ace of bass...shhhhh

Which album was it that got you into metal and can you explain why?
i'd say shai hulud, hearts once nourished... because (even though it's not really metal), it was the music i had been looking for for a long time and i had finally found it, there have been a million hardcore and metal cd's i've bought since then, but that one really stands out.

Whats the last album you purchased and what did you think of it?
actually (to beat a dead horse) i just bought the new shai hulud, and i think it's, at least, the best cd of 2003

What would be your dream band line-up?
matt fox-guitar
me(of course)-drums
skycamefalling's bass player
dillingers guitar player

If you could do a cover for a tribute album to any band, which song of which band would you pick and why?
misfits-all hell breaks loose

What do you think of the position of metal and music in general today?
actually, i think metal is doing very well in comparison to hardcore, there is alot of new talented bands that i'm excited about. music in general sucks-as usual

Which other bands stand out for you at the moment?
unearth, as the sun sets, the dillinger escape plan...ect

Do you have any funny stories about the band you can share with us?
ooooh man, once this guy was planning to rob josh(our bass players) house. he had just pulled up when we all pulled up, and he's this ghetto guy that josh used to know, and he played it off like he's there to hang out. so we just jammed with this creepy fuckin gangster watching us the whole time...it was shitty.

and finally, what do you see in the future for Santi?
i plan to be doing this for a loooong time, so you know, tours, recording...the whole deal.
