Albums of Purgatory interview Throneaeon's Tony Freed

Albums of Purgatory: Firstly, whats the band up to right now?

Tony Freed: Well the third opus called "Heading Inwards" are about to be released (April -03) so weīre pretty much preparing for the promoting campaign. Weīre for example planning the European tour starting in Edinburgh may the 5th ending in Germany may th 31th.

AoP: Any luck in replacing Roger on drums?

TF: We were lucky to get rid of him, but no not any luck in replacing him! Matte Modin from Dark Funeral replaced him in the studio, so that you might say was lucky.

AoP: How would you describe the Throneaeon sound?

TF: Aggressive, but structured. How would you describe it?

AoP: How did you get involved with the band?

TF: My brother, Roger "the quitter", had his own deathmetal project trying to play old Carcass covers. I was involved getting him on track and starting up the band. When I realized I had put too much effort in pushing him forgetting myself I had to force myself in there.

AoP: Can you remember your first gig (how did it go)?

TF: It was probably shit, but I canīt remember it. It was about 11 years ago.

AoP: Are you involved in any other projects and if so how do they compare to Throneaeon?

TF: No. No time left for that kind of entertainment.

AoP: What are your favourite Throneaeon tracks?

TF: Something from the new album "Heading Inwards". I guess my fave would be a pretty intense track called "Genocide in grace". Itīs about the rulers of this earthly world we live in, who uses religion to glorify war and holocaust.

AoP: What are your favourite all time songs?

TF: Come to the sabbath (Mercyful fate)

AoP: What would be your dream band line-up?

TF: Me (Throneaeon), Glen Benton(Deicide), Doc (Vader), Yngvie Malmsteen

AoP: What was the first record you bought?

TF: Bark at the moon (Ozzy Ozbourne)

AoP: If you could do a cover for a tribute album to any band, which song of which band would you pick and why?

TF: We actually recorded "Lionīs den" by Morbid Angel that was released on the tribute called "Tyrants from the abyss". It was released sometime in 2002. If we were to record a new one I would like to do Come to the sabbath by Mercyful fate. Because it appeals so much to me with itīs dark motion. The lyrics and the music fits so great with eachother. Itīs an excellent song all through. (Ask me tomorrow and youīll get another one Iīll praise as high as this one.)

AoP: What do you think of the position of metal and music in general today?

TF: Itīs not like in the glory 80īs. Nothing can be like in the 80īs. The music scene in general is fucked up. It has probably always been, but what I see today, and what disturbs me is that you canīt see the difference between a real product and a demo. You know we released "With Sardonic Wrath" in -99 I think. People asks me "- Is it a demo.?" Fuck off, itīs a fucking Mcd released by a recordlabel.

AoP: Which other bands stand out for you at the moment?

TF: Ultima thule, Ozzy, Judas Priest, Tiamat, King Diamond.

AoP: Do you have any funny stories about the band you can share with us?

TF: Roger, yes "the quitter", are actually pretty funny. Heīs always pissed off if you get to know him. Therefor heīs often the victim for jokes. Itīs especially funny because heīs always asleep. At one time when toured in Sweden we had to stop at a gasstation in the middle of the night, everyone so goddamn hungry so we decides to go into the gasstation to find something to eat. A few minutes later the alarm starts on the mini-van and all lamps are blinking like a fucking tivoli. Everyone thought the car was being robbed. We all rushes out to the car and a tired face looks back at us out the window angry as a bee.

AoP: and finally, what do you see in the future for Throneaeon?

TF: One day at a time. I have my goals to achieve. First up finding a new drummer, next up release the album, third place: touring eruope this spring. Then writing new material.
