Albums of Purgatory interview Tyrant
Firstly, whats the band up to right now? Right now, we have been
actively searching for a drummer and have been working hard on our
forth-coming record, "Tara"
How would you describe the Tyrant sound? Its very hard to put a
label on us, in my eyes... It sounds cliche, but thats in all
honesty.. we have all ranges from Metal, Ambience, Experimental,
to influences of Jazz, Funk, Trip Hop, the whole nine yards..
How did you get involved with the band? I, myself, started the
band some years ago...
Can you remember your first gig (how did it go)? Our first gig
was a show I put on to celebrate our bassist, Legions, Birthday...
it was cool for the most part, our performance went fine and so
other bands were awesome as always.. but it was insanely
unorganized and from that moment on, I make sure my bases are
covered, hehe.. I still get shit from that show, too..
Are you involved in any other projects and if so how do they
compare to Tyrant? I am involved in lots of projects, which do not touch
base on Tyrants material.. Tyrant is my mindscape for ALL
different sorts of music.. to let it ALL out in one device.. but
sometimes i cant get that across with just Tyrant alone.. i have
such projects as Miasma (Ft. members of other bands such as Muh
from Fleur De Lis, and solo artists Layla Minoui), Magenta
Conflict (Ft. Legion), Gargamel (Ft. Jon Carter [A good friend and
supporter of Tyrant]), and others...
What are your favourite Tyrant tracks? Wow, thats a REALY hard
question.. Our new material is blowing the old shit out of the
water.. some tracks would include, "You Hate Car
Accidents", "Underwater", "Die Trying", and some others,
which
dont have steady titles yet..
What are your favourite all time songs? haha, thats an even
HARDER question... my styles vary more then alot of musicians
around my area, so id say songs from bands like Dredg, Blood Has
Been Shed, Cave In, Norma Jean, Led Zepplin, Black Sabbath, Pink
Floyd, Tears for Fears, Metallica, Sade, the Dillinger Escape
Plan, Faith No More, Ozzy, etc.
What the first record you ever bought? I dont really remember,
honestly.. i know it was some 80 hair metal band though, haha.. i
was little and REALLY into all that shit.. 80s synth too, like
Depeche Mode, Duran Duran, Tears for Fears...
Which album was it that got you into metal and can you explain
why? There was a few actually, I heard Sepulturas - Chaos A.D., i
believe it was, and i was fuckin' trippin.. umm. and Metallica -
..And Justice For All, Fear Factory, Pantera, Meshuggah..
Meshuggahs - Destroy/Erase/Improve opened me into Chaosphere and
immediatly i was stuck in heavy music..
Whats the last album you purchased and what did you think of it?
The last album i purchased was Cave In - "Antenna" and i fucking
love that band.... i dont have enough money to buy CDs, hehe, but
before that i got Blood Has Been Shed, i believe.. Novella of
Uriel...
What would be your dream band line-up? wow.. umm.. thats way to
hard to say.. just all my influences in one.. have like Jim
Morrison and Howard Jones, haha.. or Robert Plant and Jens
Kidman.. on vocals.. and an ARRAY of guitarists.. my Raymond
Hererra on drums, maybe Danny Carry... and Cliff Burton on bass
\m/..
If you could do a cover for a tribute album to any band, which
song of which
>band would you pick and why? theres SO many... some mains on MY
list would have to be Led Zep and Sabbath.. to do "When the Levee
Breaks" by Led Zep or "Electric Funeral" by Sabbath would be
awesome..
What do you think of the position of metal and music in general
today? I think theres alot of shit out there, honestly... There
are alot of talented musicians in Metal and non-Metal bands with
the local scenes across America as well as Nationals, but the
crowd seems to buy into the simplicity, money making tactics.. the
true form of musician rarely shows through, and when they do, it
happens systematically, which im happy to see.. I see alot more
heavy music fans out and about and it brings a tear to my eye,
hehe.. im hoping Heavy music joins the front in its rightful place
real soon..
Which other bands stand out for you at the moment? bands like
Blood Has Been Shed and Norma Jean.. truely, truely, talented
bands that i feel will crush my soul if i listen to there heavy
ass shit enough, hehe.. and then theres the new albums by Massive
Attack, Dredg, and Cave In, which always allow me to see the
artistry in melodic creations..
Do you have any funny stories about the band you can share with
us? wow, many, the bands members alone are insanely funny and fun
all the time.. just traveling to the venues alone are funny.. but
there are also specifics like the numerous times i have been
shocked to the ground by my mics, us all falling into our old
drummers set, atleast one member a show gets knocked in the balls,
there are times at shows were we've played backyards, we've blown
up BBQ, set off 100 something fireworks during our set, setting
the backyard, and our bassist on fire..haha.. fun times..
and finally, what do you see in the future for Tyrant? I see us
not going anywhere.. this year, we will have been together for 4
years... We've worked hard on everything we've manage to
accomplish.. so we see us striving for our goals and not stopping
until they are reached.. We are a very different band that is not
afraid to try new things... so we hope our music is accepted for
and by the artists at heart and atleast appreciated, if not
accepted.. Tyrants been a part of each members life and mind for
sometime now and that wont go away... look out for Tyrant real
soon, because we'll be there.. Listen and feel for yourself what a
group of musicians are capable of feeling..
Thanks again for the interview and good luck for the future.
Thank you very much... Much Love, Peace, and Respect...
