My husband & Bruno Sammartino
I thought I'd just write my opinion on
the induction
of Bruno Sammartino into the WWE Hall of
Fame 2013.
On one hand I'm thrilled that Bruno is
getting inducted. He's a
wrestling legend that paved the way for
so many of today's
stars. He's a fellow Pittsburgher and all
around nice guy. So
both my husband & myself were genuinely
excited to hear the
induction news that we'd been hoping for
for a few years now.
Once the news came out that Bruno had
"buried the hatchet"
with the WWE a lot of other news came out
as well...News
that I found to be upsetting as a fan of
Bruno.
The news that's circulating throughout
the wrestling websites is
that this is purely a business venture
for Bruno. That he only
agreed to be inducted after the WWE
agreed to his 1 million
dollar request. That fee was stated as
being the same amount
a WWE big name star gets at Wrestlemania
for actually
wrestling. Meanwhile Bruno is being
interview and saying
what an honor it is to be honored?
I know that Bruno claims that Vince
McMahon owes him
money. Maybe he does. And I know that
part of the million
dollars is also for the rights to produce
a video collection,
have Bruno make some appearances on the
show, etc..
I guess what's bothering me is that it
just appears that
Bruno only did it for the money; not
because it's something
his fans have been wishing for, not
because it's a true honor,
but because they agreed to pay him
a large chunk of cash.
And it's hard to believe him when he's
saying on video
what an honor it is knowing that the WWE
has been
begging him for years to be inducted and
that he only
caved to the tune of a million
bucks. I suppose it
proves anyone can be bought including
Bruno Sammartino.
I really hope I'm wrong about the whole
situation.. I
really like Bruno, both as a wrestler and
a person!
One last closing thought: all the
wrestling sites are talking of a
Bruno Sammartino movie, the story of his
life, that's been
written that WWE may now produce. They
are saying that this
will be the very first movie about
Bruno's life. That's a false
statement. This is the first movie ever
made about Bruno:
